Yarnbomb: Rhapsody in Bloom 1

Yarnbomb: Rhapsody in Bloom
by Just Add Crochet
Spaces are brightened by the visual treat that is yarn bombing! It has been a while since Cambridge had such a
treat, or had a project that loads of knitters and crocheters could get involved with together. We're going to
make multiplicity of flowers and leaves to construct into a large Rhapsody Clematis plant for public display.
As well as looking fabulous, the work will be a carriage for awareness and fundraising for the works of
Cambridge Rape Crisis (www.cambridgerapecrisis.co.uk), with 1 in 5 of the flowers being blue (and 4 in 5
purple) to reflect the fact that 1 in 5 women aged 16-59 has experienced sexual violence.
You can get involved in the project chatter and find more information about the yarnbomb in the dedicated
Facebook group:

CLEMATIS FLOWER
To form the flower you will create a central ring in yellow, switch to your petal colour and do a 'skeleton'
round, and then flesh the petals out from this skeleton.
When complete please leave two ends of 15cm/6", which will be used to attach your work to the display, and
weave in all other ends.
Starting with YARN B (yellow)
Foundation ch 6, join into circle with ss in first ch
Round 1
ch 1, 11 dc into ch loop, join with ss into first ch
Fasten off YARN B (yellow) and attach YARN A (purple/blue) to any st in round 1.
Round 2
*ch 10, dc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in each ch (total 9 dc), [ss to next dc in round 1] twice*
Repeat *---* a total of 6 times for 6 petals.
A/N: The last ss will be into the dc where YARN A was joined
Round 3
*skip ss from previous round and begin in first dc of petal, 3 dc, 2 htr, tr, 2 htr, dc, 3 dc into
end st, (now working down other side of petal) dc, 2 htr, tr, 2 htr, 3 dc, ss into ss*
Repeat *---* a total of 6 times for 6 petals.
Round 4
*2 ss, 2 dc, htr, 4 tr, [2 tr in the next st] 3 times, 4 tr, htr, 2 dc, 2 ss, ss into round 2 ss again*
Repeat *---* a total of 6 times for 6 petals
Round 5
*skip first ss from previous round, 10 ss, 2 dc in next st, 3 ch picot, 2 dc in next st, 11 ss,
remove hook from working loop, insert hook into round 2 ss and pull through working loop*
Repeat *---* a total of 6 times for 6 petals
To finish your flower will need a tufty centre! Cut 6 short lengths of YARN B (yellow) and tie them around
the posts of round 1 so that the knots and loose ends are on the front of the flower. Once tied, cut these
ends to about 1.5cm/0.5" and split the threads to make it all fluffy!
