Keen PRIORY Church of England PRIMARY SCHOOL Jubilee Road Trentham Stoke-on-Trent ST4 8EF Dear Parents/Carers, “Be the best that you can be” Friday 26th June, 2015 Year 3 Mayan Dress-Up Day On Thursday 2nd July, we will be having a Mayan Dress-up Day to help answer Week 5’s Learning Challenge question: “What did the Mayans eat and how did they dress?” The Mayans made clothes to drape, not to fit, so loose clothes will work best on the day. Generally, the fabrics worn by the Mayans were made from cotton or hemp and these were dyed and woven into brilliant designs. Patterns were generally geometric or floral, although some patterns incorporated animal and human designs. Bold, vibrant colours will work great! Here’s a guide to what could be worn on the day: Girls loose blouse long skirt colourful, woven belt or sash long scarf wrapped around the hips and tied to the side or back. sandals Boys loin cloth a wrap around skirt or kilt. a woven bag cloth turban a poncho type cloak. The Mayans loved their jewellery - earrings, necklaces and brooches will go towards completing the authentic ‘Mayan look’. The rich wore jewellery of gold, silver, copper, turtle shell, and gemstones. The nobles wore hats, the higher the better. Many thanks, Mr Beattie and Mr Rogers
