Alternative Products to Mercury
Thermometers
European Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 as amended (EU) No 847/2012
on 19/09/2012 regarding the use of Mercury Thermometers
The European Commission’s objective of reducing the circulation
of mercury in society by cutting supply and demand means,
that from 10th April 2014, it will be illegal throughout the EU
to manufacture or supply Mercury glass tube thermometers.
As a result of these market changes SciLabware have now
rationalised all Mercury filled thermometers, detailed overleaf.
But good news! SciLabware can now offer safe, spirit-filled
equivalent products to replace mercury thermometers. With a
selection of different coloured fillings that cover an array of
temperature ranges, SciLabware can continue to offer the right
thermometer for your research.
Fillings are available in either red or blue alcohol based spirits or
alternatively a specially selected green low toxic organic filling.
These materials allow temperatures to be recorded from as low
as -100°C to a maximum of 360°C with selected thermometers.
Whichever thermometer you choose we are confident you will
agree the quality and legibility of these thermometers provide
an ideal alternative to Mercury.
The following pages illustrate in detail the entire range of both MBL® and Quickfit® branded thermometers and accessories
that SciLabware has to offer, including new product codes. As a consequence of the EU enforced ban, all Mercury filled
thermometers will be discontinued and will no longer be available following the 10th April.
