2017 Registration Information You MUST read this entire brochure, download the registration form for the location you wish to attend, fill out the form and mail it back with payment before the February 1 deadline! All day camp participants (except boys and tags) MUST be registered Girl Scouts. You can wait to see if you are accepted into camp before registering. If accepted into camp, you MUST complete the online registration at www.GSNorCal.org. EVERYONE must provide a copy of their Girl Scout registration confirmation with their health forms. Girls do NOT have to be in a troop to register as a Girl Scout. Individual registration is available. Girl Scouts of Northern California Diablo Day Camp at 2 different locations! We offer 9 one-week sessions at Camp Twin Canyon in Lafayette and 1 one-week session at Little Hills Ranch in San Ramon. All sessions work in conjunction with the Diablo Day Camp Committee and under the umbrella of GSNorCal. With two locations, we are able to offer camp to more girls, not more camp to the same girls who have already gotten into camp. Session LH only at Little Hills Ranch in San Ramon Sessions 1 to 9 at Camp Twin Canyon in Lafayette The Little Hills session hosted over 300 campers last summer. Owned by the East Bay Regional Park District and run by Urban Parks Concessionaires, Little Hills Ranch is a great site offering lots of shaded picnic tables, a large swimming pool and plenty of lawn area. Campers do not cook lunch. Cooking is offered, but is limited to twice during the week and only a snack-type food. All cam p ers and staff bring a bag lunch each d ay (please no peanuts or nuts at camp). Campers spend their time doing activities such as swimming, crafts, cooking, nature, archery (for campers currently in third grade and older), games and sports. There are large areas for volleyball, basketball, horseshoes and lawn games. Contact Session LH Directors for more information. In 1954, local Girl Scouts used cookie money and generous donations to purchase 65 acres. Some land was sold to East Bay Regional Parks in 1977, leaving about 40 acres. Originally each service unit ran a 2-week camp. Now service units combine efforts and DDC offers week-long themed camps. Ownership of Camp Twin Canyon was given to the GSSFBA (now GSNorCal) which maintains the site. Diablo Day Camp rents the site for the summer. Camp Twin Canyon is beautiful. Unit areas are spaced throughout the two oak-lined canyons. There are hiking trails, picnic tables, a small pool and outdoor cooking facilities. Girls cook their lunch most days. The outdoor cooking program is what makes DDC at Camp Twin Canyon unique in the area. Campers enjoy other camp activities such as nature, swimming, crafts and archery (if available that session). Diablo Day Camp Diablo Day Camp is operated under the management of the all-volunteer Diablo Day Camp Committee along with the efforts of volunteers from 11 local Girl Scout service units: Creekside, Cresta Blanca, Crossroads, Diablo Shadows, Delta Gateway, Harvest Sands, Lafayette, Las Trampas, Orinda-Moraga, San Ramon and Walnut Creek. One adult volunteer is required for every 6 campers. No experience is necessary; all interested adults are encouraged to apply; training is provided. Girls currently in Kindergarten through eighth grade are eligible to apply as campers for one week of their choice. Campers are placed in sessions by lottery. Medical or Special Needs (including food allergies): All of our campers have the opportunity to cook and come in contact with many different types of food while at Diablo Day Camp, so food allergies are of special concern. If your child has food allergies, it may not be possible to accommodate those needs in a camp lunch or snack food. If that is the case, you may be asked to provide food for your child. While each of our sessions has a first aider on site, the first aider is only able to provide basic first aid. We welcome girls of all abilities and needs, however, we are limited in the support we can provide to campers. If your daughter has a medical or special need and can function well with a 1:10 adult to camper ratio in a rustic environment, we will work with you to support her at camp. If your daughter would not do well with a 1:10 adult to camper ratio in a rustic environment, different camps may be more appropriate. Please contact us at [email protected] to work with you to come up with an accommodation for your child. Our first priority is your camper’s safety. Even if your camper is returning, please contact us regarding food allergies or special needs. Camp is a family affair! When you sign up as an adult volunteer, you are eligible to bring your other children who meet the age requirements. They have a full camp program too! Tags are TK (transitional Kindergarten) and preschool boys and girls. Tags must be at least three years old by the first day of your session. Tags must be potty-trained. Tags spend their days playing games, snacking, hiking around camp, and doing simple craft projects. Boys currently enrolled in grades K through 5 are welcome to attend camp with their volunteer parent. Boys participate in most of the activities that the campers enjoy, including archery and swimming. Boys currently in sixth grade or above are too old to attend our camp. Please make other arrangements for these children. Important Information: Campers 1. Complete one registration form per family/ household. Each family/household must complete their own form. All forms must be signed by the parent/legal guardian. Do NOT put unrelated persons on the same form. 2. Girls currently in Kindergarten through eighth grade can apply as campers. Only those persons officially registered with the Diablo Day Camp registrar will be allowed at camp. 10. There is a $35.00 charge for returned checks. 11. Financial aid is available through Girl Scouts of Northern California (GSNorCal) for campers and elves who qualify. A $60 deposit per camper or elf to Diablo Day Camp is required to hold a spot. Request aid as soon as you receive confirmation. Go to DiabloDayCamp.org for more information. 12. Refunds are made in October. Refunds are sent to the person who wrote the check that accompanied the original registration form. Payment, less a $35 processing fee, will be refunded if WRITTEN notice is received by your session director at least 30 days before your session begins. As a courtesy, please inform your session director of your cancellation as soon as possible so that if there are girls on a waiting list, they can be placed in camp. 13. Diablo Day Camp will reimburse camp fees for valid cookie/fall sales rewards. The original registration form must have full payment attached. Do NOT send sales rewards with your registration form! When your child is placed in camp, mail sales rewards earned this year or last year to your session director at least 30 days before your session begins. To redeem sales rewards: make a copy of the back of the card (where the numbers are), write the girl’s full name, address and $ amount of sales rewards being redeemed. Do not send the card. After sales reward amount is verified by council and camper attendance is confirmed, camp fees paid will be refunded by November. See our website for more information. Important Information: Elves 1. Elves are Diablo Day Camp helpers. Girls who are currently in grades seven through twelve can apply as elves. Girls must register as Girl Scouts prior to attending camp and provide proof with health forms. Girls do not have to be in a troop to register as a Girl Scout. Individual registration is available. Go to www.GSNorCal.org to register. 5. Most elves at Camp Twin Canyon in Lafayette work in units helping campers build & start fires, and prep & cook lunch. Some Twin Canyon elves also help in core program areas. Elves at Little Hills Ranch will work in groups in program areas such as crafts, cooking, games and nature. Little Hills elves will also be assigned to units. 2. Daughters of adult camp volunteers are given priority into camp. All other complete registration forms with payment will be held until after February 1 and then processed randomly by lottery. 6. Elves are required to re turn paperw ork on time and to attend training. NO EXCEPTIONS. If you are unable to attend the training listed below, do not apply to be an elf (you may apply to attend day camp as a camper if you meet the age requirements). 3. Elves are limited to 1 session per summer, regardless of session location. You may enter both lotteries, but will only be placed in one session if space is available. Elves will be placed in the same session as other family members. To request an exception, attach a note to your registration form. 4. Elves have the same hours as adult volunteers, arriving at camp at least 30 minutes before scheduled start times and staying up to 30 minutes after published end times. Elves arrange their own transportation to and from camp. Wait until AFTER session placement to arrange carpools.
