5 Jump Challenge
Place task cards with single rope jumping challenges around the gym (you can use picture task cards or name task cards).
When students enter the gym, they will collect a note card, a pencil, and a rope. The instructor will tell the students that the
goal of the activity is to complete 5 different jump challenges as quickly as possible. To complete the challenge, the
students must complete a certain number of jumps (10-20) before they can move to the next challenge. If a student makes
a mistake when jumping, he/she can continue the count at the last number completed. The students must also write down
the challenge that they complete.
For younger students, have all the children collect a rope, find an open space, and place the rope on the floor in the shape
of the circle. When the activity begins, the students will move to the perimeter and find an activity they would like to try then
return to their rope to perform the activity. Doing the activity this way should help ensure that students are jumping in an
open space.
Remind all students prior to starting to watch out for others as they travel because ropes might be moving.
Show Me the Money
Separate the students into groups of 4s. Each group will need a long jump rope and an open space. When the activity
begins, two students will turn the rope, one partner will jump, and on will wait for a turn. When the person in the middle
completes 10 jumps, they will head to the teacher and collect fake money (dollar bills or coins) and bring it back to the team.
While the player is gone, the player who was waiting will take his/her turn. The activity will continue with each player
rotating turns to jump and turn. The team with the most money at the end wins the round.
4-Square Jump Rope
Separate the students into groups of 6s. Each group will need a short jump rope and an open space. When the activity
begins, one student will sit in the middle of the group, and turn the rope over their head creating a helicopter. Four of the
partners will form a box (like 4-square) around the turner. The partners will need to determine which box will be consider
#1-4. When the activity begins, the turner will spin the rope while the partners try to jump the rope. If a mistake is made,
that partner will exit the square and everyone else will advance one spot. The objective is to be the partner who stays in
corner #1 for the longest period. After 3-4 rounds of turning, a new partner can be chosen to sit in the middle and turn the
rope.

4 Corner Jump Rope Fitness
Place 4 hula hoops in the corners of an open space. In each hoop place a jump rope task card. In the center of the space,
place a large number of jump ropes (20-30) in circles on the floor. When the students arrive, they will stand outside the
rectangle that the hoops make and near one of the hoops. When the activity begins, students will play rock-paper-scissors
and if they win or tie, they will go inside the rectangle, find a rope and perform the task that was on the task card. When the
student completes 10 jumps, he/she will move outside the space and advance to the next corner and find a new partner for
rock-paper-scissors. The objective is to complete as many laps as possible before the time expires.
