Changes To Michigan Water Withdrawal Regulations
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Business owners, elected and appointed officials, farmers and others
who have an interest in water use can attend an educational meeting focused on Michigan’s new water
withdrawal regulations to be offered in several Michigan locations during November and December.
The meetings will take place from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov 14 in Centreville, Dec. 4 in Howard City and
Dec. 8 in Clinton Township.
Each session will focus on why Michigan is regulating water withdrawals and what constitutes an
“adverse resource impact” to a local stream. Groundwater data and information specific to the local
area will be shared at each workshop, and participants will have the opportunity to test an online water
withdrawal assessment tool that was developed to help implement the new regulations.
The meetings are intended for those who use or plan to use large quantities of water for public and private
uses, those interested in the new water legislation and anyone interested in local groundwater resources,
including irrigators, water supply representatives, government officials and interested citizens.
The $35 registration fee includes lunch and any materials and is due five days before each event.
Registration is available at the door, but lunch cannot be guaranteed for those who do not pre-register.
To register or receive more information, visit www.iwr.msu.edu/events/wwat. Checks should be made
