Pet photo contest is coming up mid April. Photos need to be in to the library by April 11. Barb Hopper plans on setting up this contest and having it on display for your 25 cent votes by April 17. Please take a moment to get that best photo of your pet and send it in to the Library to be included. A few rules: not larger than 4x6, names on the back of the photo so it can be returned to you after the contest, and send along a stamped self addressed envelope that fits the photo if you want it returned. We look forward to counting the quarter votes at the end of the contest on May 9. As I announced last month, we plan on a first ever plant exchange day in the garden outside the library. Several of the garden plants need to be thinned, and we will be accepting your plants for exchange as well. Diana “garden” Clark is asking that you help by saving plastic milk jugs and your pots to put plants in as you visit and exchange. This should be a fun event. We’ll have a donation box available, and the proceeds will be used for maintenance of the garden we all love to walk through. Help us make this an annual event by participating with your plants and a few moments of your time. The date for your calendar is Saturday June 2 from 9 AM ‘til Noon. Chairs and more chairs. Pick up day for the Little Chair-ity event is Saturday March 31 from 9 AM until 11 AM. If you plan on participating, be there early for the best selection. As you know, this is first come first serve. I have a large selection of chairs, cribs, an all-wooden doll stroller, one small musical doll chair (remember the one Deb Clark did a couple of years ago?) and new this year a rocking elephant and a beautiful solid oak rocking horse. For extra fun, I found a mouse chair and a bear chair too. The backs are carved in to faces with ears. As I’ve said before, finding the chairs is a lot of fun for me too, and I always wonder what our talented artists will do with each item. Thanks to Jim Bedell and Charles Zegoski again this year for their repair work on items that are in need of some tender loving care to make them usable again. I was reminded this past month that we can all do a better job, especially me, of inviting new members of the community to join our group. I‘ve met two new people in the past month, and had to go back or call after the fact to invite them to visit our library and join the Friends group. If we all invited one new person our group and people to share the important work of supporting the library would continue to expand. Well, a busy month ahead for us. Enjoy a good book and have fun getting outside and enjoying the spring weather. And, a special thank you to long time Friends Alberta and Earl Stanley for their recent generous monetary gift to the Friends group. We’ll use it wisely. Alberta and Earl, as many of you know, live in Tennessee and are no longer able to travel here to visit in person. Thanks to both of you. Thanks, Leon Important Dates for Your Calendar Pet Photo Contest pictures are due by April 11 Little Chair-ity Events June 23 and July 14 Good Buy Book Sale Saturday August 11 from 9am to 1pm The Friends of the Shelby Area District Library is organized for the development of the Library, to bring together people interested in books, to promote and publicize the interest, usefulness, and resources of the Shelby Area District Library facilities through publications, programs, exhibits, and other means, and to raise funds to provide for the purchase of materials for the library.
