not only the best place for you to call home, but the
best place for our staff to work. May you have a very
Blessed Easter!

A Bit About April:
“I had not thought of violets of late, the wild, shy kind that springs
beneath your feet in wistful April days…” ~ Alice Dunbar-Nelson
April is the fourth month of the year and the first full month of spring. No
one knows for certain how April got its name, but it might have come from
the Latin word aperire, which means “to open.” April is, after all, the
month when (in the northern hemisphere) buds begin to open and things
begin to grow again after the winter. In April, small animals that were
hibernating usually come out and the birds fly back northward to settle,
bees and butterflies begin to gather nectar. Because of the nice warm
weather of April, amateur athletes begin to go outside while the
professional baseball season begins. People usually do their spring
cleaning and mowing.
The first day of April begins with April Fool's Day. In modern times, people
have gone to great lengths to create elaborate April Fools’ Day hoaxes.
Newspapers, radio, TV stations and Web sites have participated in the
April 1 tradition of reporting outrageous fictional claims that have fooled
their audiences. In 1957, the BBC reported that Swiss farmers were
experiencing a record spaghetti crop and showed footage of people
harvesting noodles from trees; numerous viewers were fooled. In
1985, Sports Illustrated tricked many of its readers when it ran a made-up
article about a rookie pitcher named Sidd Finch who could throw a fastball
over 168 miles per hour. In 1996, Taco Bell, the fast-food restaurant chain,
duped people when it announced it had agreed to purchase Philadelphia’s
Liberty Bell and intended to rename it the Taco Liberty Bell. In 1998, after
Burger King advertised a “Left-Handed Whopper,” scores of clueless
customers requested the fake sandwich.

Celebrating the Resurrection of Jesus Christ
This year, Easter falls on Sunday, April 16th. It is one of the latest days that the
calendar allows. As you may know, in 325CE the Council of Nicaea established that
Easter would be held on the first Sunday after the first full moon occurring on or after
the vernal equinox. Now there is really nothing Biblical about how this date is set. We
could celebrate Jesus Christ’s resurrection every day if wanted to. Actually that would
be more Biblical. Some of you may already do that.
The early church (notice only 300 years after the historical fact) decided that the
church should set a day aside that all believers celebrate together this great, historical, central to our faith, event. So, Easter Sunday culminates the events of passion
week.
Starting with Palm Sunday, going through Good Friday and ending with Easter Sunday
is a great way to remember this important week in Jesus life. What is so great about
seeing someone worshiped as king only to be beaten to death on a cruel cross? Jesus
knew that those who worshipped Him with palm branches would be drowned out by
the crowds wanting His death. What is so great, is that Jesus, because of His great
love, willingly went to the cross for you and me.
As you celebrate the fact that Jesus Christ physically rose from the dead remember
that Jesus is alive and waiting to come again. The resurrection is the proof that Jesus
was who He said He was, the Son of God.
He came willingly and laid down His life willingly. This is the point of celebrating Jesus
Christ’s resurrection. Jesus came to serve in His life, His death, and His resurrection.
(1 Corinthians 15)
