CHAPTER 1 - INTRODUCTION
I have been blessed to have been in the “Messianic
Movement” as it is called for over 20 years and have seen
much good in it, particularly where it comes to outreach
to Jewish people with the Gospel of the Messiah.
Having said that, I have also seen some of the craziest
people and theologies come into the “Movement”
(“Messy-anic”) as well.
Somehow, we seem to attract folks that are outside of the
Mainstream Church – which, admittedly, we are too. We
attract strange “prophets” and “apostles.” We also attract
people who attempt to change us into something more
suited to their own vision of what the “Messianic
Movement” should be; at least in their eyes.
Some come into the Messianic Congregation and say
we’re “too Jewish.” Others: “Not Jewish enough.”
Some say, “Not enough of the ‘Spirit’.” Others say,
“Too much.”
Some say, “Too many Messianic and
Jewish songs” and want us to bring a lot more of the
Christian songs into our services.
Whatever we’re doing, there’s always something that
should be changed to make it “More Biblical” – again, at
least in their eyes.
If we were to change something every time someone
comes into the Congregation and criticizes or suggests,
we would be changing weekly for every passerby who
seeks to make us “in their own image.”

It’s when they begin to “shove” their particular viewpoint
down our throats that I take exception to the individual
making the complaint. No doubt we can all disagree on
some point of Scripture and still be accepting of each
other as brothers and sisters in the Lord, focusing on the
many things we DO agree with.
Yet, when it comes this certain group of people who
avidly and it seems too often, rabidly, proselytize from
among established Messianic Congregations to create
their own particular brand of “Messianic” congregation
that I take exception: particularly when their brand of
“Messianic” has little or no Scriptural or historical
backing to it and especially when it causes such
divisiveness among the brethren.
Such is the case of the “Sacred Name” groups often
found among “Messianics” and “non-Messianics” today.
In case you don’t know what a “Sacred Name” group is,
let me introduce it to you from Wikipedia:
The Sacred Name Movement (SNM) is a
movement in Christianity that seeks to
conform Christianity to its roots in Judaism
in practice, belief and worship. The best
known distinction of the SNM is its belief in
the use of a proper name for the God of
Israel (YHVH/Yahweh) based upon the
Tetragrammaton and the use of the Hebrew
name of Jesus (Yahshua). SNM believers
also generally keep many of the Old

Testament laws and ceremonies such as the
Torah festivals and keeping kosher food
laws. However, not every 'Sacred Name'
Group adheres to Old Testament festivals,
dietary laws and other mitzvot.
The Sacred Name Movement arose in the
early 20th century out of the Adventist
movement. C.O. Dodd, a member of the
Church of God (Seventh Day), began
keeping the Jewish festivals (including
Passover) in 1928 and adopted sacred name
doctrines in the late 1930s. Dodd also came
into contact with Herbert W. Armstrong,
who accepted many of Dodd's teachings.
Dodd began publishing The Faith magazine
starting in 1937 to promote his views. It is
currently freely distributed by the Assembly
of Yahweh, the oldest and largest Sacred
Name Assembly.
Angelo Traina, a disciple of Dodd,
undertook the writing of a Sacred Name
edition of the Bible, publishing the Holy
Name New Testament in 1950 (see
Tetragrammaton in the New Testament) and
the Holy Name Bible in 1962, both based
upon the King James Version but replacing
"God" with "Elohim", "LORD" with
"Yahweh" and "Jesus" with "Yahshua". A

student of Traina, Jacob O. Meyer, founded
the Assemblies of Yahweh in 1969.1
Names of God and Christ
Sacred Name believers teach that "God" and
"Lord" are mere titles that cannot properly
carry the meaning of His name, and that
many titles ascribed to God are tainted by
pagan ancestry. They believe that it is
necessary to salvation that one use the
correct name of God, which in the Hebrew
Bible is the tetragrammaton (usually
rendered as Yahweh, but some variants used
by SNM groups include 'Yahveh, Yahvah,
Yaohu-Ul, Yahovah and the older
transliteration Jehovah).
The SNM accepts the New Testament and
Jesus as the Messiah. However, the name
spelled "Jesus" is seen as either a badly
corrupted transliteration of the Messiah's
true name or a pagan-influenced name.
SNM groups refer to him most often as
Yahshua, but sometimes as Yeshua,
Yahushua, Yahoshua, Yaohushua, Y'shua or
Yahshuah. The title Christ is also seen as
pagan, replaced with "the Messiah" or "the
Anointed".

Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
This distinctive emphasis on sacred names
has led to the production of several different
Sacred name Bible translations that use
Hebrew-based names. These include
Rotherham's Emphasized Bible, Restoration
of Original Sacred Name Bible, Angelo
Traina's Holy Name Bible, Sacred Name
King James Bible, Sacred Scriptures,
Family of Yah Edition, The Word of
Yahweh, The Scriptures. However, they do
not all agree on how to spell these names.2
There seems to be a common denominator among these
groups: as noted in the above Wikipedia article they all
seem to emanate from the Adventist (as did the Branch
Davidian – David Koresh, Wako, Texas group), or
remnants of the Armstrong/Church of God, or from the
Christian Identity movements here in the United States.
None of these “Sacred Name” groups are Jewish, but
feign to be “true Jews” and “true Israel” as opposed to
those who are genetically descended from Abraham,
Isaac and Jacob. Many of these adopt Hebrew-sounding
names, as if to establish some sort of credential as a
legitimate part of Israel.
The revelations they receive from God, whether it be the
true “Sacred Name” of God, or the true Sabbath are
“whispered words” in the ears of their founders from the
Most High – however He pronounces His Name – which
even the “Sacred Namers” admittedly cannot agree upon

among themselves! Among the “Sacred Name” groups,
there are well over 13 pronunciations of the “Name” of
God and His Son:
YHVH, YHWH, Yahweh, Yahveh, Yaveh, Yaweh,
Jehova, Jehovah, Jahova, Jahovah, Yahova, Yahovah,
Yahowah, Jahowa, Jahowah, Yahavah, Jahavah,

As many variations as there are in these Sacred Name
groups, by their own admission, if God is truly
whispering His true Sacred Name into their ears, it
would seem that He cannot remember His own Name!

Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
I had a “prophetess” come into my congregation about a
year ago. As we were in the Praise & Worship time I
could tell that she was agitated. Somehow, I could tell
that she was unhappy about something we were doing or
saying and I expected to hear about it after services were
over.
As it turned out, I was right and after services she came
to me and asked why we didn’t use God’s true Name in
our songs and prayers? Didn’t I know that when I used
the words “Lord” and “God” that I was praying to a false
god? And that when I used the Name “Yeshua” (Jesus’
Hebrew Name) that it meant “May his name be blotted
out?”
Finally, she asked me if I knew how “The Father’s”
Name was truly pronounced? I replied that no one
knows how the Name is pronounced since the original
Hebrew has no vowel points and that the last group that
actually knew how it was pronounced was the priests of
Israel!
She informed me that “The Father” told her many years
ago how it was pronounced and that it was pronounced
“Yahveh.”
I replied that’s not how another Sacred Name person
received it. Two doors down from us at the time (see my
book, Lunacy of the Lunar Sabbath) was a “Sacred
Name/Lunar Sabbath/Patriarchal Marriage” adherent
who was told by God it was “Yahuwah.”
9
Bruce R. Booker
I then said that since “The Father” told you one way to
pronounce His Name and told him another way it is
evident that one of you is wrong! Perhaps, I said, maybe
“The Father” doesn’t remember His own Name? Or,
perhaps, He is telling one person one Name and another
person another Name to confuse and divide us?
She looked at me frustrated and offered to lay hands on
me and pray for me. I said, “No thank you. I don’t let
anyone lay hands and pray for me unless I know them”
and from what I knew of her already, I didn’t want her to
even touch me.
There is a divisive spirit associated with this Sacred
Name movement and I would suggest you not even
tolerate it in your congregation.
To prove how divisive this issue is, certain Sacred Name
groups pronounce “anathema” against other Sacred
Name groups that don’t pronounce the Sacred Name in
the same way as they do! I guess they think that He
didn’t whisper it properly to the others and they are going
to Hell…

Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
CHAPTER 2 –THE USE OF NAMES IN
SCRIPTURE
In the ancient world of the Bible, names had meaning.
Some names depicted the wish of parents (or of God) for
a child to fulfill a certain destiny. Or a name could
describe a child's hoped-for character. Or if in later life
he did not live up to his character name, he might be
renamed.
Sometimes God renamed people. We have
Abram/Abraham, Yakob/Israel, Yedidiah/Solomon.
God’s Names Have Meaning to Them As Well!
 Adonai (Lord, Master) – used 439 times in the
Bible.
 Elohim (God) – first revelation of God about
Himself.
 El (God)
 El Shaddai (Lord God Almighty)
 El Elyon (The Most High God)
 El Olam (The Everlasting God)
 Yahweh - I AM (Will be) Who I AM (Will Be) –
Exodus 3:15; aka “Jehovah” (No such word in Hebrew
since there is NO “J” sound) [Yahweh is a “best Guess”
pronunciation, since No One Knows how the Name is
pronounced at this time. More about that later.]
 Yahweh Rapha (The Lord That Heals)
 Yahweh Shammah (The Lord Is There)
 Yahweh Tzidkenu (The Lord Our
Righteousness)
11
Bruce R. Booker
 Yahweh Mekoddishkem (The Lord Who
Sanctifies You)
 Yahweh Yireh (The Lord Will Provide)
 Yahweh Shalom (The Lord Is Peace)
 Yahweh Sabaoth (The Lord of Hosts)
 Yahweh Nissi (The Lord My Banner)
 Yahweh-Raah (The Lord My Shepherd)
In ancient times, it was thought that to control the god
you wished to beseech for favor, you had to know the
name of the god.
A common concept in history is that
knowing the name of something or someone
gives one power over that thing or person.
This concept occurs in many different
forms, in numerous cultures—in ancient and
primitive tribes, as well as in Islamic,
Jewish, Egyptian, Vedic, Hindu, and
Christian traditions. The strength of this
belief varies, and there are certainly
exceptions to it. Nonetheless, the persistence
and historical continuity of the linking of
naming and power are unmistakable.4
God's name is not a magic amulet that must be
pronounced correctly in order to conjure Him or to
persuade Him to hear one's prayers. His name
conveys His character, the essence of His person.

Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
It says something about who He is. When God explains
His name to Moses on Mount Sinai, He doesn't expound
on Hebrew grammar but reveals character.
YHVH passed by in front of him and proclaimed Exodus
34:6-7:
 YHVH, YHVH — a God compassionate and
gracious, slow to anger,
 abounding in unchanging love and faithfulness,
 who guards unchanging love for thousands,
 who forgives iniquity, rebellion, and sin;
 yet who will not leave the guilty unpunished.
God's self-revealed Name is here woven into the
covenant which he made with Israel.
A true name is a name of a thing or being
that expresses, or is somehow identical with
its’ true nature.
The notion that language, or some specific
sacred language, refers to things by their
true names has been central to philosophical
and grammatical study as well as various
traditions of magic, religious invocation and
mysticism (mantras) since antiquity.5

Here are some Scriptural examples:
Genesis 32: Ya’akov and “the Man”
23
He took them and sent them across the
stream, then sent his possessions across; 24
and Ya'akov was left alone. Then some man
wrestled with him until daybreak. 25 When
he saw that he did not defeat Ya'akov, he
struck Ya'akov's hip socket, so that his hip
was dislocated while wrestling with him. 26
The man said, "Let me go, because it's
daybreak." But Ya'akov replied, "I won't let
you go unless you bless me."
27
The man asked, "What is your name?" and
he answered, "Ya'akov." 28 Then the man
said, "From now on, you will no longer be
called Ya'akov, but Isra'el; because you have
shown your strength to both God and men
and have prevailed." 29 Ya'akov asked him,
"Please tell me your name." But he
answered, "Why are you asking about my
name?" and blessed him there. 30 Ya'akov
called the place P'ni-El [face of God],
"Because I have seen God face to face, yet
my life is spared.
Judges 13: Manoach and “the Angel”
16
The angel of Adonai said to Manoach,
“Even if I do stay, I won’t eat your food;
and if you prepare a burnt offering, you
must offer it to Adonai.” For Manoach did
14
Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
not know that he was the angel of Adonai. 17
Manoach said to the angel of Adonai, “Tell
us your name, so that when your words
come true we can honor you.” 18 The angel
of Adonai answered him, “Why are you
asking about my name? It is wonderful.”
21
But the angel of Adonai did not appear
again to Manoach or his wife. Then
Manoach realized it had been the angel of
Adonai. 22 Manoach said to his wife, “We
will surely die, because we have seen God!”
Acts 19: The Seven Sons of Skeva
13
Then some of the Jewish exorcists who
traveled from place to place tried to make
use of the name of the Lord Yeshua in
connection with people who had evil spirits.
They would say, “I exorcise you by the
Yeshua that Sha’ul is proclaiming!”
14
One time, seven sons of a Jewish cohen
gadol named Skeva were doing this; 15 and
the evil spirit answered them. It said,
“Yeshua I know. And Sha’ul I recognize.
But you? Who are you?” 16 Then the man
with the evil spirit fell upon them,
overpowered them and gave them such a
beating that they ran from the house, naked
and bleeding.

Folklore and Fantasy
According to practices in folklore,
knowledge of a true name allows one to
affect another person or being magically. It
is stated that knowing someone's, or
something's, true name therefore gives the
person (who knows the true name) power
over them. This effect is used in many tales,
such as in the German fairytale of
Rumpelstiltskin - within Rumpelstiltskin
and all its variants, the girl can free herself
from the power of a supernatural helper who
demands her child by learning its name.6
Dungeons & Dragons7
In the Dungeons & Dragons role-playing
game, certain spells are more powerful if the
target's true name is known.8
The “Name” and the Jewish People

Jewish people use circumlocutions -ambiguous or

shawv, shav - emptiness, vanity, falsehood
a. emptiness, nothingness, vanity
b. emptiness of speech, lying
c. worthlessness (of conduct)
1) Don’t Want to Make the Name into Nothing or
to Destroy IT - When written or printed, God's
Hebrew name (and many of the “stand in names”
used to refer to God) cannot be erased or destroyed
(made nothing). Because of this, many Jews
substitute "God” with “G-d” so that they can erase
or dispose of the writing without showing
disrespect to God. This is why Scrolls with
Hebrew are given a respectful burial, as would a
human body, instead of being thrown away or
destroyed by fire or other method.
17
Bruce R. Booker
2) Reverencing and Respecting the Name of God The custom of substituting the word "God" with
“G-d” or “Lord” with “L-rd” in English is based
on the traditional practice in Jewish law of giving
God's Hebrew name a high degree of respect and
reverence. There is no prohibition in Jewish law
against writing out or erasing the word "God" in
English. However, many Jews have afforded the
word "God" with the same level of respect as the
Hebrew equivalents.
3) Don’t Want The Name to Become “Common”
or “Worthless” 4) Don’t Want to Give the Name to the Gentiles to
Be Desecrated Among Them “Emptiness of
Speech” - One does NOT have to live very long in
this world to hear God’s Name (in whatever
language) taken in vain and blasphemed. It is
human sin nature to curse God regardless the
language.
5)
No One Knows How the Name is Pronounced
Today – We’ll deal with that in the next chapter.

Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
CHAPTER 3 – PRONOUNCING THE
“NAME”
You Can ONLY Learn to pronounce a Word (any word,
including the Sacred Name of God) correctly by hearing
it spoken, NOT by Reading it!
As I noted earlier, if God were truly pronouncing His
holy Name into the ears of the “Sacred Namers” there
would be no discrepancy among them, since there is only
One God, only One Spirit, only One Messiah and only
One pronunciation of His Name! ALL other noises
attempting to vocalize the Name by anyone are just vain
imaginations. Period.
The fact that there are so many different pronunciations
of His Name amongst Sacred Namers is evidence that:
1) God doesn’t know his own Name.
2) God is a liar (or is deceitful) in that He gives one
pronunciation of the Name to one and another
pronunciation to someone else.
3) Someone else is whispering a name into the ear
of the recipient (i.e. Satan – the author of all
lies).
4) The person has wishful thinking (or a sense of
pride) in that they feel that God is whispering His
Name into their own ears.
None of the above is good.

Learning to Pronounce Words
Generally speaking, most children learn how to
pronounce words in their own language by hearing those
words pronounced or spoken long before they can read
those words. That includes you!
Let me give you an example of a word in English (it is a
real word):
Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis
According to the Oxford English Dictionary:
This is "a word invented in imitation of
polysyllabic medical terms, alleged to mean
‘a lung disease caused by the inhalation of
very fine sand and ash dust (mostly volcanic
silica ash dust)’ but occurring only as an
instance of a very long word.”9
Here you DO have vowels to help you pronounce the
word and most North American English-speaking people
will STILL have difficulty pronouncing it!!
BUT, this is NOT true of the Biblical Hebrew words!
They do NOT have Vowels!

The Biblical Hebrew Language
The Hebrew Bible was originally written only in
consonants.
Until the Massoretes10, (Jewish scribes - 895-1000 A.D.)
there were NO vowel points added to the Hebrew to help
with the pronunciation of Hebrew words.
These Jewish scribes as all scribes were meticulous in
their copying of the text. The texts they had were all in
capital letters, and there was no punctuation or
paragraphs.
The Masoretic text
The Masoretic text has a system of dots and dashes called
“pointing” (nikudot - these are vowel pronunciations)
which had been added to the consonants in order to aid in
the words pronunciation.
The Masoretic text is the standard text used today for all
Bible translations. Without these aids we would have
no idea how to pronounce certain words.
Nikudot – Vowel Points
10
The Massoretes were a group of Scribes/Scholars headquartered mostly in
Tiberius and Jerusalem, who devised a system of pronunciation and
grammatical guides to preserve the proper pronunciations of God’s Word.
21
Bruce R. Booker
Without Vowels…Even in our own language it would be
difficult to figure out what the word exactly is or how to
accurately pronounce it.
For example when we take away the vowels in our
English language we may not know how to pronounce a
word -for example:
Love- lv, weather-wthr, redemption would
look like rdmptn, or Rsrrctn (resurrection).
How Much Less in a Language that is NOT Our
Native Language: Hebrew!
Even with the aids there is no absolute assurance of
certain words spoken correctly the way the originally
were, case in point God's name represented without the
vowels YHWH.
“Ya Gotta HEAR It to Know it!”
You need to know how it sounds (someone HAS GOT to
Pronounce it to you)! You cannot just read it!

The “Tetragrammaton” (Four Letters - YHVH)
In the Hebrew Bible God's personal name YHVH - is the
most often used noun. It occurs 6,823 times.
In Hebrew texts it is spelled only with consonants: Y-HV-H, and it is called the "Four-Letter" name or
Tetragrammaton in Greek.

The Massoretes and the NAME - Tetragrammaton
By the time the Massoretes began to copy these texts –
the Jews were beginning to embrace the belief that THE
NAME (“haShem”) was too sacred to utter.
So the Massoretes came up with an ingenious plan:
Where YHVH’s Name was written they would use the
vowels from the word Adonai.

The Bottom Line: You Cannot KNOW How a Word
(any Word – including the Sacred Name of God) is
pronounced UNLESS You HEAR IT!
So, who last KNEW EXACTLY HOW to pronounce the

The last group of men on Earth who actually knew the
Sacred Name and how it was pronounced – (AND they
had to hear it) were the Cohanim (priests) in the Temple
service (until 70 CE).

The pronounced the NAME over the people during the
Aaronic benediction of Numbers 6.
After that, because there was no more Temple, there was
no more Temple service and evidently the passing on of
the Name from father to son ceased amongst the
cohanim!
Now, even they don’t know how to pronounce the
NAME!

CHAPTER 4 – THE “CONSPIRACY”
A common thread of thought in any of these groups is
that there is a “conspiracy” by Jewish rabbis and
Mainstream Christians to eliminate the Sacred Name
from the Scriptures and from use among God’s people.
Examples of this can easily be found on their websites:
RESTORATION
NAME11
OF
THE
SACRED
Why were the Sacred Names removed
from the Scriptures? - 7000 times in the
Old Testament and 1000 times in the New
Testament? The Restoration thereof is
flooding the world - You can share in it
also!
There are some who believe that the
Messiah only referred to Yahweh as "The
Father" or believe that Yahushua also
followed the doctrine that states Yahweh's
name is too holy to pronounce. But this was
one of many false teachings coming out of
that era. Yahushua flatly condemned those
who would rather do things according to the
"tradition of the elders" rather than the way
Yahweh wanted them done. It should be
obvious to anyone that when Yahweh does

28
Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
something nearly 7,000 times…that is the
way He wants it to be done. He doesn't want
us to come in later and change the way He
has done things. Yet Yahweh placed His
name in scripture nearly 7,000 times and the
"tradition of the elders" is to replace His
name each one of those 7,000 times with a
title of man's own choosing (e.g. LORD,
GOD, Adonai, HaShem, etc). 12
To the “Sacred Namers,” to say any Name (other than
their pronunciation) of the Sacred Name of God, means
praying to another god, and thus incurs the wrath of the
Almighty and the loss of salvation!
Hence, the
conspiracy to take out the true, Sacred Name of God is
by Satan and his earthly servants so that people will “not
call upon the Name of the Lord” and be saved!
This is why the issue is so important to them and why
they make such a huge proselytizing effort among
mainstream Messianic congregations.
Hell
Classical Sacred Name theology does not teach an
everlasting, burning hell for the wicked or those who
never heard the Glad Tidings. Most Sacred Namers
expect everyone, past or future will have at least one
bona fide chance to hear the Glad Tidings and to respond
to them. For those who missed out in this life, some
12

process of universal judgment for all is expected to playout in the time of the Second Resurrection.
Though the Second Resurrection is never called such in
The Scriptures, mention made of the "First Resurrection"
in Revelation 20:5-6, coupled with the judgment
described briefly in Revelation 20:12, is interpreted to
point to such a "Second Resurrection" process. Upon
acceptance of salvation, the sacrifice of Yahshua is
applied to all who accept it at that time, and they are
given a period of time to manifest the good works by
which they are judged.
It is believed that many incorrigible wicked will not
choose eternal life, even under these ideal circumstances.
The concepts of Universal reconciliation and hellfire for
innocent babies who never heard the Glad Tidings are
equally repugnant to Sacred Name theology.13
I personally know one Sacred Namer who once attended
our congregation for a short time that believes that even
Adolf Hitler will not go to Hell, and even perhaps not
Satan!
Differences from Messianic Judaism
The “Messianic Movement” at large is a wide gathering
of diverse people. Even within the mainstream of the
Movement, to which the Sacred Namers do not belong,
there is wide expression of flavors: some are more
13

30

liturgical, some less, some are more Torah submissive,
others not.
Yet, even with these flavors, the Messianic Movement as
a whole holds to certain commonalities of belief, in
contra-distinction to the Sacred Name groups:
Messianic Judaism began as a movement for
and by ethnic Jews, while the Sacred Name
movement emerged among Christians.
Messianic Judaism is therefore more likely
to accept the views of traditional Judaism,
such
as
not

Conclusion
Several points I wish to conclude with before leaving this
chapter:
1) Sacred Name groups are not generally united
even among themselves! They are a divisive
group and these divisions are quite evident
within their own.
2) Sacred Namers are not in the same camp
theologically or in orientation to Messianic
Judaism.

3) Some Sacred Namer groups are part of the
White Supremacist Movement and by no means
are part of the Messianic Jewish Movement.

CHAPTER 5 – A LIST OF “SACRED NAME”
SCRIPTURES
Sacred Namers base their practice on the many
Scripture passages that indicate that people will be
calling upon the Name (i.e. “Sacred Name”) of
God to be saved.
To give a complete Scriptural picture, we shall
begin in the Torah, the first Five Books of the
Bible.
TORAH (Teaching, Instruction)
To Seth, to him also a son was born; and he called
his name Enosh. Then {men} began to call upon
the name of the LORD. (Genesis 4:26)
Then he proceeded from there to the mountain on
the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, with Bethel
on the west and Ai on the east; and there he built
an altar to the LORD and called upon the name of
the LORD. (Genesis 12:8)
…to the place of the altar which he had made there
formerly; and there Abram called on the name of
the LORD. (Genesis 13:4)
Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to
her, "You are a God who sees"; for she said, "Have I
even remained alive here after seeing Him?" (Genesis
16:13)

{Abraham} planted a tamarisk tree at Beersheba, and
there he called on the name of the LORD, the
Everlasting God. (Genesis 21:33)
So he built an altar there and called upon the name of the
LORD, and pitched his tent there; and there Isaac's
servants dug a well. (Genesis 26:25)
Then Jacob asked him and said, "Please tell me your
name." But he said, "Why is it that you ask my name?"
And he blessed him there. (Genesis 32:29)
Then Moses said to God, "Behold, I am going to the sons
of Israel, and I will say to them, 'The God of your fathers
has sent me to you.' Now they may say to me, 'What is
His name?' What shall I say to them?" (Exodus 3:13)
God, furthermore, said to Moses, "Thus you shall say to
the sons of Israel, 'The LORD, the God of your fathers,
the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of
Jacob, has sent me to you.' This is My name forever, and
this is My memorial-name to all generations. (Exodus
3:15)
"Ever since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he
has done harm to this people, and You have not delivered
Your people at all." (Exodus 5:23)
“…and I appeared to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as God
Almighty, but {by} My name, LORD, I did not make
Myself known to them.” (Exodus 6:3)

"But, indeed, for this reason I have allowed you to
remain, in order to show you My power and in order to
proclaim My name through all the earth.” (Exodus 9:16)
"The LORD is a warrior; The LORD is His name.”
(Exodus 15:3)
"You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in

'You shall make an altar of earth for Me, and you shall
sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace
offerings, your sheep and your oxen; in every place
where I cause My name to be remembered, I will come
to you and bless you.’ (Exodus 20:24)
"Now concerning everything which I have said to you, be
on your guard; and do not mention the name of other
gods, nor let {them} be heard from your mouth.”
(Exodus 23:13)
"Be on your guard before him and obey his voice; do not
be rebellious toward him, for he will not pardon your
transgression, since My name is in him.” (Exodus 23:21)
And He said, "I Myself will make all My goodness pass
before you, and will proclaim the name of the LORD
before you; and I will be gracious to whom I will be
gracious, and will show compassion on whom I will
show compassion." (Exodus 33:19)
The LORD descended in the cloud and stood there with
him as he called upon the name of the LORD. (Exodus

am the LORD.’ (Leviticus 18:21)
'You shall not swear falsely by My name, so as to

(Leviticus 19:12)
'I will also set My face against that man and will cut him
off from among his people, because he has given some of
his offspring to Molech, so as to defile My sanctuary and
to profane My holy name.’ (Leviticus 20:3)
'They shall be holy to their God and not profane the
name of their God, for they present the offerings by fire
to the LORD, the food of their God; so they shall be
holy.’ (Leviticus 21:6)
"Tell Aaron and his sons to be careful with the holy
{gifts} of the sons of Israel, which they dedicate to Me,
so as not to profane My holy name; I am the LORD.”
(Leviticus 22:2)
"You shall not profane My holy name, but I will be
sanctified among the sons of Israel; I am the LORD who
sanctifies you…” (Leviticus 22:32)

Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name
and cursed. So they brought him to Moses. (Now his
mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of
the tribe of Dan.) (Leviticus 24:11)
'Moreover, the one who blasphemes the name of the
LORD shall surely be put to death; all the congregation
shall certainly stone him. The alien as well as the native,
when he blasphemes the Name, shall be put to death.’
(Leviticus 24:16)
"So they shall invoke My name on the sons of Israel, and
I {then} will bless them." (Numbers 6:27)
'You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in
vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who
takes His name in vain.” (Deuteronomy 5:11)
"You shall fear {only} the LORD your God; and you
shall worship Him and swear by His name.”
(Deuteronomy 6:13)
At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry
the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the
LORD to serve Him and to bless in His name until this
day. (Deuteronomy 10:8)
"You shall fear the LORD your God; you shall serve Him
and cling to Him, and you shall swear by His name.”
(Deuteronomy 10:20)
"But you shall seek {the L{ORD}} at the place which
the LORD your God will choose from all your tribes, to

establish His name there for His dwelling, and there you
shall come.” (Deuteronomy 12:5)
“…then it shall come about that the place in which the
LORD your God will choose for His name to dwell,
there you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt
offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the
contribution of your hand, and all your choice votive
offerings which you will vow to the LORD.”
(Deuteronomy 12:11)
"If the place which the LORD your God chooses to put
His name is too far from you, then you may slaughter of
your herd and flock which the LORD has given you, as I
have commanded you; and you may eat within your gates
whatever you desire.” (Deuteronomy 12:21)
"You shall eat in the presence of the LORD your God, at
the place where He chooses to establish His name, the
tithe of your grain, your new wine, your oil, and the
firstborn of your herd and your flock, so that you may
learn to fear the LORD your God always.” (Deuteronomy
14:23)
"If the distance is so great for you that you are not able to
bring {the tithe,} since the place where the LORD your
God chooses to set His name is too far away from you
when the LORD your God blesses you…” (Deuteronomy
14:24)
"You shall sacrifice the Passover to the LORD your God
from the flock and the herd, in the place where the

LORD chooses to establish His name.” (Deuteronomy
16:2)
“…but at the place where the LORD your God chooses
to establish His name, you shall sacrifice the Passover in
the evening at sunset, at the time that you came out of
Egypt.” (Deuteronomy 16:6)
“…and you shall rejoice before the LORD your God, you
and your son and your daughter and your male and
female servants and the Levite who is in your town, and
the stranger and the orphan and the widow who are in
your midst, in the place where the LORD your God
chooses to establish His name.” (Deuteronomy 16:11)
"For the LORD your God has chosen him and his sons
from all your tribes, to stand and serve in the name of the
LORD forever.” (Deuteronomy 18:5)
“…then he shall serve in the name of the LORD his God,
like all his fellow Levites who stand there before the
LORD.” (Deuteronomy 18:7)
'It shall come about that whoever will not listen to My
words which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will
require {it} of him.’ (Deuteronomy 18:19)
'But the prophet who speaks a word presumptuously in
My name which I have not commanded him to speak, or
which he speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet
shall die.' (Deuteronomy 18:20)

"When a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the
thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing
which the LORD has not spoken. The prophet has spoken
it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.”
(Deuteronomy 18:22)
"Then the priests, the sons of Levi, shall come near, for
the LORD your God has chosen them to serve Him and
to bless in the name of the LORD; and every dispute and
every assault shall be settled by them.” (Deuteronomy
21:5)
“…that you shall take some of the first of all the produce
of the ground which you bring in from your land that the
LORD your God gives you, and you shall put {it} in a
basket and go to the place where the LORD your God
chooses to establish His name.” (Deuteronomy 26:2)
"So all the peoples of the earth will see that you
are called by the name of the LORD, and they will
be afraid of you.” (Deuteronomy 28:10)
"If you are not careful to observe all the words of
this law which are written in this book, to fear this
honored and awesome name, the LORD your
God…” (Deuteronomy 28:58)
"For I proclaim the name of the LORD; Ascribe
greatness to our God!” (Deuteronomy 32:3)

NEVIIM (Prophets)
"For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the

“…so that you will not associate with these
nations, these which remain among you, or
mention the name of their gods, or make {anyone}

them.” (Joshua 23:7)
Then the woman came and told her husband,
saying, "A man of God came to me and his

God, very awesome. And I did not ask him where

(Judges 13:6)
Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, "What is your

But the angel of the LORD said to him, "Why do you ask

"For the LORD will not abandon His people on account

Jonathan said to David, "Go in safety, inasmuch as we

saying, 'The LORD will be between me and you, and
between my descendants and your descendants forever.'
"Then he rose and departed, while Jonathan went into the

And David arose and went with all the people who were

(2 Samuel 6:2)
When David had finished offering the burnt offering and

The people were still sacrificing on the high places,
because there was no house built for the name of the
LORD until those days. (1 Kings 3:2)
"You know that David my father was unable to build a

wars which surrounded him, until the LORD put them

"Then you call on the name of your god, and I will call

So Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, "Choose one ox

(1 Kings 18:25)
Then they took the ox which was given them and they
prepared it and called on the name of Baal from morning
until noon saying, "O Baal, answer us." But there was no
voice and no one answered. And they leaped about the
altar which they made. (1 Kings 18:26)
So with the stones he built an altar in the name of the

CHAPTER 6 – “THE NAME” AND THE
MESSIANIC REIGN OF YESHUA
When Yeshua Returns – Revelation 19 We ALL
Will Know the Name
11 Next I saw heaven opened, and there
before me was a white horse. Sitting on it
was the one called Faithful and True, and it
is in righteousness that he passes judgment
and goes to battle. 12 His eyes were like a
fiery flame, and on his head were many
royal crowns. And he had a name written
which no one knew but himself.
Prophetic scripture pointing toward a “Last Days”
or, as the phraseology goes, “In that day” in the
majority of cases actually points to the 1,000 year
messianic reign of Yeshua on earth.
Since He literally has the Name that “no one
knows except Himself” written upon Him, we
must conclude that He brings the pronunciation of
the True and Sacred Name with Him!
It will be then, and only then, that “men will call
upon the Name of the Lord” and be saved.”
There will be no vain imaginations by proponents
of “the Name” as there is today. No one will have
had the Name secretly spoken to them, as the
Sacred Name only proponents like to say.
92
Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
Yeshua’s coming will be quite public! The whole
world will know it! He will bring the Name with
Him and the pronunciation of the Name will be
available to everyone!
Divisive men will have their mouths silenced and
rebelliousness will be dealt with quickly.
For 1,000 years Satan will be held in bondage and
so too will be his servants.
Men and women will freely call upon the Name of
the Lord and be saved, for God’s Salvation,
Yeshua will rule and reign.
Until then, we have Satan working hard to divide
the brethren. If he can get us to argue and fight
and divide from one another, he knows that we
won’t be going against him as a united Body of
Messiah.

CHAPTER 7 – SALVATION IN “THE
NAME”
What “Name” Are We Talking About with This Issue
of Salvation?
According to Sacred Name groups unless one uses the
Hebrew name and only the Hebrew name for God that
person will be eternally damned.
They base this upon the Scripture, “All Those who call
upon the Name of the Lord will be saved.” Joel 2:32
cf. Acts 2:16-21.
Then What about Abraham, Isaac & Jacob?
Are they damned because they didn’t know the Sacred
Name?
Did they NOT have a relationship with God because they
did NOT know the Sacred Name?
As mentioned earlier, up Until the Time of Moshe NO
ONE KNEW the Sacred Name as revealed in Exodus 3!
Not EVEN Abraham (Exodus 6)!
2
God spoke to Moshe; he said to him, “I am Adonai. 3 I
appeared to Avraham, Yitz’chak and Ya‘akov as El
Shaddai, although I did not make myself known to
them by my name, Yud-Heh-Vav-Heh [Adonai]. 4

simple meaning of a Scripture passage.
What About the Apparent Contradiction?
"Well then how could Abraham (Genesis 12:8) call upon
the Name Yud-Heh-Vav-Heh if he didn't know the
Name?"
Genesis 12:7, 8
7
ADONAI appeared to Avram and said, "To your
descendants I will give this land." So he built an altar
there to ADONAI, who had appeared to him. 8 He left
that place, went to the hill east of Beit-El and pitched his
tent. With Beit-El to the west and 'Ai to the east, he built
an altar there and called on the name of ADONAI.
The earliest Scriptural use of the YHVH is in Genesis
2:4, so does that mean that in Genesis 4:26 when men
began to call upon the Name of the Lord that they
actually used the Name YHVH?
Doesn’t that Violate the P’shat of Exodus 6:2-3?
Or could it mean that Moses, now knowing Who (now
past tense to Moses’ revelation in Exodus 3) they were
calling upon, AND under the inspiration wrote in the
95
Bruce R. Booker
Name YHVH to show that they were calling upon the
true God, as opposed to the false ones?
Let me give you one such example from Genesis 10:5:
19
From these the islands of the nations
were divided [past tense] into their lands,
each according to its language, according
to their families, in their nations. 20 These
were the descendants of Ham, according to
their families and languages, in their lands
and in their nations… 31 These were the
descendants of Shem, according to their
families and languages, in their lands and
in their nations.
BUT Languages do NOT come into being until the next
chapter of Genesis!
Genesis 11 tells us:
1
The whole earth used the same language, the same
words. 2 It came about that as they traveled from the east,
they found a plain in the land of Shin‘ar and lived there. 3
They said to one another, “Come, let’s make bricks and
bake them in the fire.” So they had bricks for buildingstone and clay for mortar.
4
Then they said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city with
a tower that has its top reaching up into heaven, so that
we can make a name for ourselves and not be scattered
all over the earth.” 5 Adonai came down to see the city
and the tower the people were building. 6 Adonai said,
96
Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
“Look, the people are united, they all have a single
language, and see what they’re starting to do! At this
rate, nothing they set out to accomplish will be
impossible for them!
7
Come, let’s go down and confuse their language, so
that they won’t understand each other’s speech.” 8 So
from there Adonai scattered them all over the earth, and
they stopped building the city. 9 For this reason it is
called Bavel [confusion] — because there Adonai
confused the language of the whole earth, and from
there Adonai scattered them all over the earth.
Let’s make this perfectly clear:
In Genesis 10 where it talks about the Lord separating the
nations by language, this could not possibly have
happened until after the Lord confused their languages.
I previous passage talks in the present tense (Genesis 10)
about something that won’t happen until the future
(future tense – Genesis 11).
The same thing goes with the Sacred Name. It was
revealed to Moshe in Exodus 3 (present tense to him), but
the Torah was NOT written by Moses until Israel was in
the Wilderness (a future event Deuteronomy 31:9 - to
Exodus 3)! Did Moses KNOW the NAME when he
wrote the words of Torah? Most certainly! Could he
have placed the NAME in Torah where appropriate as he
was writing the words? Absolutely!
97
Bruce R. Booker
This means that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob did NOT
know God’s Sacred Name – yet, they called upon the
Name of the Lord!
Let me wrap this up with one more point:
It IS possible that the phrase “called upon the Name of
the Lord” is an idiom and NOT a literalism!
In other words, that phrase conveys an idea, NOT a
literally calling upon the Name YHVH!
It is a fact that Biblical Hebrew is rich in Hebrew idioms,
metaphors, Anthropomorphisms and other figures of
speech.
Let me give you an example found in Deuteronomy 29
KJV:
18
Lest there should be among you man, or
woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart
turneth away this day from the LORD our
God, to go and serve the gods of these
nations; lest there should be among you a
root that beareth gall and wormwood; 19 And
it come to pass, when he heareth the words
of this curse, that he bless himself in his
heart, saying , I shall have peace, though I
walk in the imagination of mine heart, to
add drunkenness to thirst…
Does this Hebraic Idiom Make Sense to Us? Why
Not???
98
Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
1. Comes from another world-view.
2. Comes from another language.
3. Even if we were dealing from the same language –
comes from another time (anachronism).
If we were going to try and make sense of it – what
would we have to do???
1. Place it back into its original language.
2. Place that language back into its proper time.
3. Place the idiom back into the world-view of its
recipients.
If we did that, then Deuteronomy 29 would make more
sense:
18
So let there not be among you a man,
woman, family or tribe whose heart turns
away today from ADONAI our God to go
and serve the gods of those nations. Let
there not be among you a root bearing such
bitter poison and wormwood. 19 If there is
such a person, when he hears the words of
this curse, he will bless himself secretly,
saying to himself, 'I will be all right, even
though I will stubbornly keep doing
whatever I feel like doing; so that I,
although "dry," [sinful,] will be added to
the "watered" [righteous].'
Here’s another biblical Hebraic idiom (Ezekiel 8:17):
99
Bruce R. Booker
“Is it too light a thing for the house of Judah
to commit the abominations that they
commit here, that they should fill the land
with violence and provoke me still further to
anger? Behold, they put the branch to their
nose.”
As the verses before this talk about how the Hebrews are
mixing neighboring religions with true worship
(mourning for Tammuz, idols in the temple courtyard,
sun worship):
1. This is an act of syncretism--the mixing of
elements from several religions.
2. They don't mean it.
One more verse (Matthew 6) to demonstrate the use of
Hebraic idioms:
19
"Do not store up for yourselves wealth here on earth,
where moths and rust destroy, and burglars break in and
steal. 20 Instead, store up for yourselves wealth in heaven,
where neither moth nor rust destroys, and burglars do not
break in or steal. 21 For where your wealth is, there your
heart will be also. 22 `The eye is the lamp of the body.' So
if you have a `good eye' [that is, if you are generous]
your whole body will be full of light; 23 but if you have
an `evil eye' [if you are stingy] your whole body will be
full of darkness.
Idioms are “figures of speech” and are NOT meant to be
taken literally!
100
Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
A figure of speech is the use of a word or a
phrase, which transcends its literal
interpretation. It can be a special repetition,
arrangement or omission of words with
literal meaning, or a phrase with a
specialized meaning not based on the literal
meaning of the words in it.
We have idioms in English as well:

There are many, many more.
If one takes idioms, metaphors and anthropomorphisms
as literalisms, then we will have a definite
misunderstanding of the Scripture!
Here is where we have to be very careful in our biblical
hermeneutic. We must be careful not to eisegete, rather
we must exegete. This is particularly true when we
come up with biblical doctrine!
One more thing: Don’t Anachronize!
Anachronize - Definition:
To refer to, or put into, a wrong time biblical passages in the light of our present
day thinking is dangerous and BAD
Hermeneutic, in that we are superimposing
our own present-day concepts upon ancient
ones, as if they were the same thing.
So, when the Bible says that men or that when Abraham
"called upon the Name of the Lord" it does not mean that
they actually knew or literally pronounced the Name
(Exodus 3)!
Hebraically and Biblically it meant that they stirred
themselves to take hold of Him.
102
Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
In Isaiah 64:7- A repeated grammatical structure sets
two thoughts as parallel: And there is none
a. that calleth upon thy name,
a. that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee:
for thou
b. hast hid thy face from us, and
b. hast consumed us,
because of our iniquities
With this beautiful use of synonymous parallelism God
emphasizes that to call upon the Name of the LORD
means to stir oneself up to take hold of Him.
According to the P’shat of the Passage in Exodus 6:
Though Abraham DIDN’T Know God’s Name (YHVH)!
God STILL made a COVENANT with him!
In Fact: God Says of Abraham
Isaiah 41:8:
"But you, Israel, My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen,
Descendant of Abraham My friend…”

CHAPTER 8 – WWJD???
What appropriate names CAN WE USE regarding
our addressing God without resorting to a variant
of the Sacred Name?
The biblical pattern of the First Century Messianic
synagogue:
You don’t see the non-Messianic (or Messianic)
synagogues using “The Name” in their service, or in fact,
their verbal communications!
More importantly, we need to ask ourselves: WWJD???
Or WWYD???
What Would Jesus Do???
or
What Would Yeshua Do???
Though He used many I am statements “I am the way,
the truth and the Life…” “I am the light of the world…”
“I am the bread of life” they did not have the same
impact as the claim to Deity as found in the following:
John 8:21 Again he told them, "I am going
away, and you will look for me, but you will
die in your sin -- where I am going, you
cannot come." 22 The Judeans said, "Is he
going to commit suicide? Is that what he
104
Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
means when he says, `Where I am going,
you cannot come'?" 23 Yeshua said to them,
"You are from below, I am from above; you
are of this world, I am not of this world. 24
This is why I said to you that you will die in
your sins; for if you do not trust that I AM
[who I say I am], you will die in your sins."
John 8:58 Yeshua said to them, "Most
assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham
was, I AM."
If you notice the reaction by the religious leaders
of His day, you will know exactly what He is
alluding to: The Jewish leaders wanted to kill him
because He said God was his Father, making
himself equal with God (in nature.)
This meant a special relationship that excludes
anyone else is able to have.
Similarly: In John 5:18 and in John10:30:
Yeshua claimed “I and my Father are one.”
In V.33 the Jewish leaders pick up stones
because they understood this as blasphemy
in v.36 Yeshua interprets what He meant by
saying, “because I said, I am the Son of
God.”
What Yeshua is saying is that He was God!
105
Bruce R. Booker
As God, then, He had the authority to teach His
disciples how to address God as YHVH, should He
have thought that was important enough for them
to be saved by, yet, that’s NOT what He taught in
the Lord’s prayer of Matthew 6:9-13. He taught
them to say Avinu (Our Father):
“Our Father, which art in heaven…”
Here’s another word that Yeshua taught His
disciples to call God: “Abba.”
Abba is Equivalent to our English word “daddy.”
We Could ALSO Address Him as “Adonai”
The TANAKH uses this word 439 times in the
Bible and can be rendered either as “my Lord” or
simply as “Lord.”
We can conclude that Yeshua did not routinely use
the Sacred Name, nor did He demand that His
disciples use it to insure their salvation.
Finally, citing the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 8,
we can even use non-Hebrew terms for Lord, God
(in reference to the true Lord and God) and lord
and god (in reference to the false gods) in the
contemporary languages of the day – in this case
Paul was using Koine Greek:
5
For even if there are so-called “gods,”
either in heaven or on earth — as in fact
106
Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
there are “gods” and “lords” galore — 6 yet
for us there is one God, the Father, from
whom all things come and for whom we
exist; and one Lord, Yeshua the Messiah,
through whom were created all things and
through whom we have our being.
What I am really saying to the Sacred Namers is
this: God KNOWS who you are addressing when
you address Him in ANY Language. You DON’T
have to call out to Him in the Hebrew language
and precisely the absolute correct pronunciation in
order for Him to hear you and know to Whom you
are addressing.
King David wrote in Psalm 139:
1
For the leader. A psalm of David:
ADONAI, you have probed me, and you
know me. 2 You know when I sit and when I
stand up, you discern my inclinations from
afar, 3 you scrutinize my daily activities.
You are so familiar with all my ways 4 that
before I speak even a word, ADONAI,
you know all about it already.
He doesn’t have to wait for your saying His
Sacred NAME before He knows that you are
addressing Him. He knew that you were about to
address or call upon Him before you even did!

FINAL CHAPTER – BEWARE OF DIVISIVE
MEN AND THEIR FALSE DOCTRINES!
Regarding Divisiveness
Not ALL divisiveness is Wrong!




God DIVIDED the Light from the Darkness
God DIVIDED the Waters from the Earth
God DIVIDED the Waters from the Heavens
God DIVIDED the Woman from the Man
YESHUA, Truth Incarnate DIVIDED People
John 14:6
Yeshua said, "I AM the Way -- and the Truth and the
Life; no one comes to the Father except through me.
Matthew 10:34 - "Do not think that I came to bring
peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a
sword. 35 "For I have come to 'set a man against his
father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-inlaw against her mother-in-law'; 36 "and 'a man's enemies
will be those of his own household.'
So, if we were dealing with ABSOLUTE TRUTH on
the Sacred Name Issue, then it CAN and SHOULD
DIVIDE!
108
Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
BUT, We are NOT Dealing with Absolute Truth with the
Sacred Name as it is Being Used by ANY of the Sacred
Name Groups or by the Church!
In my teaching on the Sacred Name in our congregation
I used a white board and placed many Yud Hay Vav
Hays on the board then randomly inserted the Nikudot
(Vowel Points).
By simply changing the Nikudot, I could make the
pronunciation different – in fact, to well over thirteen
different pronunciations. [One can come up with over
200 variants of pronunciation of the Sacred Name by
simply changing the Nikudot. Remember: Biblical
Hebrew had NO Vowels or Vowel Points (Nikudot) until
the Massoretes!]
This means one thing for certain: In the “Sacred Name
Movement” alone there many variations of how
individual groups pronounce the Name.
Thus, 99.9% of them are WRONG about the Name!
No one KNOWs which one of the variants are correct!
That’s one of the “secrets” of the Sacred Name Cult!
Even THEY DO NOT KNOW the “Name”!
They would like to tell you that God personally
“whispered” His Name in their ear, but again, with all the
variants of the Name in Sacred Name groups, that
evidence ALONE points to the fact!
109
Bruce R. Booker
The next secret is this:
Satan can and does use good (but misguided), sincere
people who think they are doing the will of God.
One
can
be
sincere,
yet
sincerely
WRONG!
We can use the example of Peter in Matthew 16:13-23:
13
When Yeshua came into the territory around Caesarea
Philippi, he asked his talmidim, "Who are people saying
the Son of Man is?" 14 They said, "Well, some say
Yochanan the Immerser, others Eliyahu, still others
Yirmeyahu or one of the prophets." 15 "But you," he said
to them, "who do you say I am?" 16 Shim`on Kefa
answered, "You are the Mashiach, the Son of the living
God." 17 "Shim`on Bar-Yochanan," Yeshua said to him,
"how blessed you are! For no human being revealed
this to you, no, it was my Father in heaven.”
In his response to Yeshua’s question, Peter’s words were
only from the Father in Heaven.
Let’s move on in this same passage:
21
From that time on, Yeshua began making it clear to his
talmidim that he had to go to Yerushalayim and endure
much suffering at the hands of the elders, the head
cohanim and the Torah-teachers; and that he had to be
put to death; but that on the third day, he had to be raised
to life. 22 Kefa took him aside and began rebuking him,
"Heaven be merciful, Lord! By no means will this
happen to you!" 23 But Yeshua turned his back on Kefa,
110
Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
saying, "Get behind me, Satan! You are an obstacle in
my path, because your thinking is from a human
perspective, not from God's perspective!"
In his second response, Peter’s words came straight from
the pit of Hell, Satan himself!
One sincere person (Peter), one mouth, but TWO sources
of revelation: one from the Father in Heaven and one
from the father of lies in Hell!
Satan will use good believing people to divide God’s
people!
A good sincere and believing person is one thing and
correcting them will be received by them – as was the
case with Peter!
James 5
19
“My brothers, if anyone among you wanders
from the truth and someone brings him back, 20
let him know that whoever brings back a
sinner from his wandering will save his soul
from death and will cover a multitude of sins.”
Galatians 6:1
“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any
transgression, you who are spiritual should
restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep
watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.”
111
Bruce R. Booker
True believers in Yeshua/Jesus will humbly receive
correction from a brother when they stray.
But there is yet another kind of person out there who
does NOT receive correction. They come into
congregations to DIVIDE congregations.
They are the wolves. Remember, Yeshua (Jesus) said,
24
"For false Christs and false prophets will arise
and will show great signs and wonders, so as to
mislead, if possible, even the elect. (Matthew 24)”
and 15 "Beware of the false prophets, who come to
you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly are
ravenous wolves. 16 "You will know them by their
fruits. Grapes are not gathered from thorn bushes
nor figs from thistles, are they? 17 "So every good
tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad
fruit. 18 "A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor
can a bad tree produce good fruit. 19 "Every tree
that does not bear good fruit is cut down and
thrown into the fire. 20 "So then, you will know
them by their fruits. (Matthew 7)”
Proverbs 26:21 says of these:
{Like} charcoal to hot embers and wood to fire,
So is a contentious man to kindle strife.
As predators, they do not always play fair. Sometimes
they choose their victims based on physical condition,
preferring young, old, sick or injured prey.
112
Secrets of the “Sacred Name” Cult
BUT wolves (and other predators) do NOT always prey
on the weak – though that is easier for them! If they can,
and are hungry enough, they will take down the strong!
Therefore, if a wolf or other predator comes into the
“flock” the best solution is to show them the door and
warn the people NOT to associate with them!
Romans 16:17 - “I appeal to you, brothers, to
watch out for those who cause divisions and
create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you
have been taught; avoid them.”
Titus 3:10 – “Warn a divisive person once, then a
second time; and after that, have nothing more to
do with him.”
If you don’t get rid of the contentious man, you may well
be losing your congregation!
Shaul writes to Titus:
9
But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies
and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are
unprofitable and worthless. 10 Reject a factious man
after a first and second warning, 11 knowing that
such a man is perverted and is sinning, being selfcondemned.
Suffice it to say, should you be dealing with this in your
congregation or fellowship now, that you are dealing
with some pretty divisive issues and you should – if you
113
Bruce R. Booker
still want to have a congregation – get rid of the
offenders quickly by showing them the door.
“By their fruits you shall know them…”
Warn them and if they do not repent, show them the
exit and let the people know that these men are
contentious and to have nothing to do with them.
It is hoped that this book helps to shed a little light on the
subject. It is not meant to be a conclusive book by any
means, but gives just enough information to give you
insight as to the issue.
