Custom, Faculty-Led European Study Abroad Select Travel Study: A Distinct Difference Founded in 1933, we are a British provider of specialized custom and faculty-led programs to Great Britain, Ireland, Continental Europe and Russia. We were welcoming professors and their students from universities across the USA and Canada long before the term faculty-led had even been coined. At that time it was simply a matter of working with professors, providing what we all knew was an important educational opportunity for young adults. We believe short term programs fulfill a valuable function in a student’s career, since not all have access to the time and resources necessary for longer term experiences. These days, with so many new providers in the field of study abroad, we all share the same values; academic excellence, integrity and the delivery of a high quality experience. But there are some critical aspects to our operation which make us a little different: During 80 years of investment, we established our own network of field offices, throughout the UK, Continental Europe and Russia. Why does that matter to you? Not having to use third party partners on the ground allows us to exercise complete control over our own staff and trip delivery operations at all times. That gives you accountability, control, uniform service standards for every activity and logistical service we provide. In addition, consider cost containment. Having no partner in the middle translates into meaningful cost savings and the best value for your students. We specialize exclusively in Europe. Europe is our home. It is what we know and what we control. Our value is our expertise. Simply put, we don’t subscribe to the notion that offering the world through a network of partners is in the best interests of the university. Perhaps we forego some business as a result, but it’s a philosophy to which we choose to adhere. We are also present in North America. Fully incorporated, licensed and insured in the USA with corporate offices located there since 1975. Fiscal, legal and operational accountability are a crucial part of an institution’s risk management process. Our view is this brings you the best of both worlds, we hope you’re inclined to agree! SUPPORTING MEMBERS OF Theatre & Performing Arts Students of theatre, dance and media will find inspiration from Shakespeare, attend productions on London’s West End, see great fringe theatre, perhaps bear witness to Ireland’s literary giants, or follow literary trails, and the history of theatre, through Italy. Attend or stage a production at the world famous Edinburgh Festival Fringe. And these are just a few of the opportunities available. Inspire and broaden minds with workshops at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, the Royal Shakespeare Company, London’s National Theatre and many other performing arts studios. Opportunities for students of technical theatre and arts management are also available. All workshops can be designed to suit your own curriculum. Select collaborates with you to develop experiences and interactions with European experts whose own experiences are shaped by circumstances very different from your students, and ultimately empower them to communicate, express and perform more effectively to a broader audience. Programs are available at both undergraduate and post graduate levels “Thank you again for an incredible journey to London! This experience was even better than the last one! And it was amazing last time so that is saying a lot... I could go on and on about the incredible experience you gave us...I look forward to working with you again when we return to London.” J.M. BFA Program Head — University of Houston Criminal Justice & Public Administration Excellent connections within British law enforcement permits us to deliver programs offering privileged access to police force training and tactics, presentation of case studies on Royal security, counter terrorism and cyber crime, at a very senior level. In addition we offer visits to prisons, detention centers, public policy officials, inner city youth crime initiatives, psychiatric institutions as well as both criminal and civil legal professionals, even the stables of the mounted police. We can deliver programs to other European countries, but in our experience the United Kingdom offers unparalleled access, familiar language and culture, and as a result, the most valuable academic return for the relatively short time invested. Without a written constitution, the United Kingdom has a criminal justice system which is built upon tradition and convention established over centuries. With lawyers and judges who wear wigs and a predominantly unarmed police force, Britain presents a fascinating comparison to the CJ systems found in the USA and other countries of the world. With two of the busiest border entry points in the world and an increasingly diverse population, it is a system which formed the basis of law enforcement systems of many nations and retains a police force which to this day, still garners the respect of the world. “Great trip! A quick note to tell you that the trip was a huge success… Karen was a fabulous guide.” J.D. Executive Director, School of Criminal Justice, Kean University Nursing, Health and Public Health Administration Examine the history of nursing and its current professional development in many European countries. Opportunities for students to witness how English and European nurses train under their respective National Healthcare Systems and in the private sector. Students spend time gaining an appreciation for the history of the profession through the centuries. Exceptional access to professionals and facilities, plus a common language, does lead us to recommend the UK as the European destination most suited to faculty leading a program abroad, espcially for the first time. Students spend time with top nursing union officials and organizations overseeing best practices. They visit facilities including primary care, pediatrics, long term and hospice care as well as public and private hospitals. One of our most popular features is the chance for visiting students to spend time with their European counterparts in a social setting. And as with all our programs, each is custom designed to the academic specifications of your faculty. Healthcare administration and public health studies focus on public policy, examination of leadership and management of healthcare networks and larger facilities. Students learn from professionals whose approach to the delivery of healthcare may originate from a very different perspective than their own. Driving desirable results and balancing the needs of patients with fiscal realities are important lessons. Programs result in students having a broadened approach to the design and implementation of management and administrative systems. We had a fantastic experience in London and I would love to talk to you more about future programs.” S.K. PhD, RN, CNE Nursing Department Cedar Crest College Business & Management A better understanding of the global business environment is a vital aspect of all students of business. Other areas include managing international supply chains, the protection of data and intellectual property, the impact of European and North American governance and regulation. Students also benefit from witnessing the varied customs and cultures and how they directly impact the way business is conducted. Undergrad, MBA and Executive MBA programs available. “ I cannot say enough about the management of our program on the ground: the tour manager in each location had all of the logistics wrapped up and ready to go for us. They had done their homework in terms of timing and transportation and worked efficiently and in strong coordination with our faculty and staff. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with you and your team and I will recommend you to my colleagues without a doubt!” G.D. Asst.
