If you are new to the program, I welcome you into my 12th year of teaching and want you to know I truly have a passion for teaching gifted children. I have two boys who attend Olson and will be in grades 4 and 6 this year. Outside of school, my husband , I and our boys love watching movies, playing outside, exercising and playing games together as a family. We definitely stayed busy this summer and I also found opportunities to collaborate with other teachers and brainstorm ideas that will be both challenging and engaging to your AIM student. The main goals of the unit are listed below. Along with this unit of study, students will have the opportunity to explore the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics through various STEM challenges and activities. Objectives • Developing an understanding of the concept of systems and of structure, function, and pattern as key systems elements • Developing reasoning skills with application to social studies • Developing interpersonal and social group process skills • Developing skills in historical analysis and primary source interpretation • Developing an understanding of ancient Greece as a civilization, with attention to defining features of geography, history, and culture STEM Integration • • • • The engineering design process is the driver for finding solutions in the identified problem. Engaging, inquiry based instructional approaches are used and research is incorporated. Students work in teams to find solutions, and multiple right solutions are possible.
