During Orientation Integrated students will present First Voice Demonstrations. This is an individual
performance by students for a panel of select faculty and administration.
Integrated voice demo: Your first Voice Demonstration occurs on Saturday, June 29. You will be required
to sing a musical theatre or classical song. You are required to present the same song you performed at your
audition for admission. Please bring your sheet music, shortened to one minute and in the correct key. A
InteGrAteD COnSerVAtOrY PrOGrAM
professional accompanist will be provided.
Appropriate Appearance and Attire for voice demos
General Appearance: Clothing should be age-appropriate and professional. Long hair should be worn up
or pulled away from your face. No excessive body ornamentation is permitted. All jewelry (with the possible
exception of wedding bands), including nose or eyebrow rings and tongue studs, must be removed. Hair
coloring of an extreme nature is not appropriate.
Appropriate Attire for Men: Men are expected to wear long-sleeve dress shirts, slacks and dress shoes.
Ties and jackets are optional. Blue jeans, sweat pants, T-shirts, flip-flops and sneakers are not acceptable
attire for demos and/or rehearsals.
Appropriate Attire for Women: Women are expected to wear dress pants, skirts or dresses of at least knee
length. Long- or short-sleeve blouses may be worn. Character shoes should have a minimum 2-inch heel, and
either a single strap or a T-strap that buckles over the instep is recommended. Flat shoes or traditional heels are
an acceptable substitute. Blue jeans, sweat pants, T-shirts, tank tops, hats, spaghetti straps, flip-flops, mules, opentoe or open-heel shoes and sneakers are not acceptable attire for demos and/or rehearsals.
Monologue Demonstration
At the discretion of your acting teacher, you may be asked to perform an Acting Demonstration during your
first week of class. You should be prepared with one monologue for your first class session. Your monologue
should be one minute in length and should be from a published play. It is recommended that you present the
same piece from your audition for admission, shortened to one minute.
Integrated Dance Placement
Over Orientation Weekend, all Integrated Conservatory students will meet with one or more members
of the dance faculty for an overview of the dance curriculum. Additionally, Integrated students will
participate in Dance Placements for the following disciplines: ballet, tap and jazz. Students will be shown
contrasting combinations and progressions and asked to perform them in small groups. Students will then
be placed in appropriate levels for the semester. No preparation is necessary.
All dance class assignments will be finalized by the end of the first week of the semester.
Appropriate Attire for dance Placement
Body-conscious dancewear is preferred for Dance Placements. Bring all appropriate dance shoes (ballet
slippers, tap and jazz shoes).

dance faculty for an overview of the dance curriculum. Additionally, Musical Theatre students will participate
in Dance Placements for the following discipline: ballet. Students will be shown contrasting combinations and
progressions and asked to perform them in small groups. Students will then be placed in the appropriate level
of ballet for the semester. No preparation is necessary.
note: Jazz, Tap and additional dance styles will be taken after the first semester..

designated as enrolled full time. Please speak with your Admissions Representative to make sure you have
met the requirements for housing.

bringing the following items (some items should probably be purchased after you speak with your roommates).
•
Twin-sized linens for your bed
•
Pillows
•

•
Basic kitchen items (dishes, eating utensils, toaster, etc.)
•
Microwaves are included in either the housing unit or in the communal kitchen. Please refer
to your specific housing assignment letter.
Parking Information
Parking is available to students at the AMDA campus. Parking rates are $550 per semester. Additional
parking permits may be purchased during registration, if space is available. (If you wish to bring your car to

Frequently
askeD questions
Question: Are Welcome/Orientation events required?
Answer: Yes. All events scheduled June 28 – 30 are mandatory for new students. These events have
been carefully planned to orient our new students to AMDA and their new homes here in Los Angeles.
Additionally, students will be completing required demonstration/placement activities that will determine
their first semester class schedule. If you have any conflicts, call the Admissions Office at 800-367-7908.
Question: When will I receive my class schedule?
Answer: Class schedules are viewed by students via their online student portal. Login information is
provided to new students at their seminar with the Education Department over Orientation Weekend.
FreQuentLY ASkeD QueStIOnS
Students may start to view their tentative schedule once they have received log-in information. A variety of
placement testing/demonstration activities are required during orientation that will affect and revise their
class scheduling. Students are asked to view their class schedules up to the Sunday prior to the start of the
semester to view the most updated schedule of classes.
Question: Where is AMDA Los Angeles located?
Answer: AMDA is located at 6305 Yucca Street, one block north of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street.
The entrance to AMDA can be found on Yucca Street, just west of Vine. The campus is composed of buildings
including a historic art deco tower, where classrooms and administrative offices are located. Residential
bungalows and apartments are designed for student housing. The AMDA campus is located in the heart
of Hollywood below the famed Hollywood Hills, an area rich in entertainment history and a legendary
tourist destination. Nearby landmarks include the Kodak Theatre (home of the Academy Awards), the
Pantages Theatre, Capitol Records, the famous Hollywood and Vine intersection, Paramount Studios,
Universal Studios, Warner Brothers Studios, NBC and the Hollywood Walk of Fame. World-famous Southern
California beaches are a short drive away.
Question: Can I plan to work while attending AMDA?
Answer: It is feasible; however, we recommend that students not work during their first semester. Students
need time to become acclimated to their new environment and focus on the rigorous program at AMDA.
Students who choose to work while in school can generally work part-time, 15-20 hours per week, for an
employer who offers a flexible schedule. Remember that your work hours cannot interfere with your course
of study at AMDA. Students planning to work, either at AMDA or in the private sector must bring either
their U.S. Social Security card or U.S. birth certificate, together with a photo ID (such as a state driver’s
license, state ID card or school photo ID). A U.S. passport or Permanent Resident Card (with photo) alone is
also acceptable for the purpose of eligibility to work.
Question: Does AMDA offer on-campus employment?
Answer: AMDA participates in the Federal Work-Study Program that is subsidized by the United States
Government, and also has a Work-Scholarship program that is funded by the school. Students cannot apply
for on-campus employment prior to their arrival at AMDA. Applications will be available after classes begin.
It is best to anticipate using these funds for living expenses rather than for tuition or housing costs.
32
amDa los angeles | summer 2013 orientation
Question: Where can I get college student health
insurance?
Answer: AMDA does not have a specific insurance plan
with which we are affiliated. Please contact AMDA
Admissions for general recommendations. Please note,
we do offer local health solution options on page 21.
Question: Can I have guests if I am living in

immediate family members.
Question: Can I have cable, telephone or highspeed internet service in AMDA student housing?
Answer: Students living in on-campus housing can
have cable television and telephone services installed.
Wireless Internet service is available at all facilities.
