Dear Parents,
This term continues to race by …
it is hard to believe that there are just
three weeks left until the end of the Summer
Term!
Bishop Philip’s Visit
On Tuesday 16th June we welcomed Bishop Philip to Holy Cross. Bishop Philip led us in a whole-school Liturgy after
which he met with staff, children and governors. The pupils of the Learning Council gave him a tour of the school.
At the end of his visit, Bishop Philip planted an apple tree in the school grounds to commemorate his visit.
Good Shepherd Mass
On Tuesday 23rd June eight of our pupils, Mrs. Blair, Father Jonathan and Mr. Eccles came together with the schools
of the Diocese at the annual Good Shepherd Mass at Portsmouth Cathedral. The Mass celebrated and praised all the
hard work that is being done by all involved and connected to Catholic Education.
Sports Day and Picnic
Congratulations again to the Squirrels House Team for winning Sports Day! Thank you to everyone for making it a
fantastic event, special thanks to the PTA. Thank you for supporting our procedures for the safeguarding of all pupils by
respecting our request to not take photographs. There are over 500 ‘official’ photographs available to view and
download free of charge at https://holycross2015.shutterfly.com/81 . A letter has been sent home with the password
needed to access the site. Please contact the school office for the password if your child has misplaced this letter.
Peter Pan Theatre Visit
The pupils from Years 1 and 2 enjoyed a wonderful experience at the Isle of Wight College on Tuesday.
The children took part in an interactive workshop on stage with the actors, followed by a two-act production of the
play. Afterwards, the children were invited to chat to the actors and take their autographs. It was a fantastic
production and a great inspiration to the children as they develop their own drama skills. We are very grateful to
the Isle of Wight College for giving us the opportunity to enjoy a live theatre performance at a substantially reduced
cost. We are very much looking forward to working with the College on future drama projects in the coming year.
Film Club with Year 5 and 6
All year Years 5 and 6 have been writing film reviews following Film Club each week. A number of children have won
‘review of the week’ across the whole of Film Club and have received a prize for their effort. Below are the most
recent winners and their reviews. Keep it up – your review writing skills have improved greatly over the year.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 Film Review
Do you believe in dragons? If so sit yourself on the sofa, curl up and watch this furious fantasy unwind... you're sure
to need popcorn! How to Train Your Dragon 2 is much better than number one because this film is where the action
happens! It’s about a young man called Hiccup who owns a dragon named Toothless who get into lots of
mischievous trouble! But when Hiccup’s dad dies the whole dragon world turns upside down. Don't forget your
tissues! I rated this film 5 stars because it was definitely dragon-tastic! (my advice to you is watch number 1 first then
watch this one -so you get the story line!).
By Mya Croft, Year 6
Do you like dragons and adventure films? If so this is the film for you. It is about a boy who has a dragon as a pet and
fits in just like everyone else. But one day him and his friend find an island and go to it and then they find out his
dad’s deep dark secret. This film, at one point, is very sad but I won’t tell you what happens then. I rated this film 2
out of 5 because it wasn't my cup of tea but it might be yours so go to the shops and buy it and some food and sit
down on your couch and watch it.

The Book of Life Film Review
Two quarrelling gods have decided to leave the fate of the underworld to three children; a guitar-playing child
(Manolo), and an invincible fighter child (Joaquin). Whichever one married Maria might
change the course of history FOREVER!
But it's a bit more exciting than that...
I loved this film! My favourite parts were when Joaquin was hiding his medal of everlasting life!

The Feast of Saint Peter and Saint Paul
29th June
God our Father, give us the joy of celebrating the feast of the apostles Peter
and Paul. Through them your Church first received the faith. Keep us true to
their teaching. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives
and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever.
Amen.
