Seniors & Friends Day
next Thursday
Next Thursday we invite Seniors and Friends
to our school to enjoy socialising and to be entertained by the children. The program begins
with Morning Tea at 10:30am, then a concert
at 11:30am and lunch will be provided at
12:30pm. We welcome all grandparents, uncles and aunties. It is always an enjoyable day.
Parents who are able to assist with catering
should contact Fiona Carroll.
Unfortunately the cricket match that was
scheduled to take place tomorrow between
Heritage Sydney and our school has been cancelled. Apparently the oval in Sydney is good
for growing rice, though.
Next Tuesday there is a team of Heritage College students competing at the HRIS Swimming Carnival held at Lambton Pool. We encourage all the students to enter the races and
do their best. The students who have been selected have been notified and will need to return their permission note as soon as possible.
On Monday the HSC Industrial Technology
students visited a cabinet-making factory in
Newcastle as part of the industry study. It was
a really interesting visit that revealed how far
technology and robotics has transformed the
manufacturing industry.
Last Thursday evening there was a large group
of students and parents who attended a performance of “Annie” in Sydney. It was a fantastic performance and a great memory for all
those who attended.
Last Friday the first P&F meeting was held in
the library at a new time of 9:00am. Thank
you to all those who attended and volunteered
to assist in fulfilling roles within the school.
Next Friday the Senior Music students are
travelling to Chamberlain Gardens Aged Person’s Home to play music for the residents

“Luke 10 v 29-37”
there. This will take place at 1pm.
The High School Camp to Victoria is
now only just over one week away. The
Heritage College Melbourne students
and staff are really looking forward to
hosting our students for a couple of
days. There are many exciting activities
planned in Melbourne and the two
schools will combine for those activities. Parents please note that the departure time on Monday morning is 7am. It
is important we leave promptly at that
time to ensure we arrive in Melbourne
at a reasonable hour in the evening.
Pack lightly.
The Primary Camp to Camp Cobark is
coming up very soon. The students will
pan for gold and go on a horse ride, as
well as camping overnight in tents. The
dates for this camp are 27-28 March.
The SRC and school captains have had
two meetings now and they are really
enjoying their role of student leadership.
The Infants class are studying “Water”
as their theme for the term. We are hoping that next term they might study
“Sunshine” as an alternative.

Infants
Class
Award winners this week were:
Todd Wilson – excellent work in Jolly
Phonics groups and great sound test results
Wills Madden – fabulous written report
on Chinese New Year
DRAMA
Last Friday we had a restaurant running
in our room! Some students were waiters, some were chefs, some behind the
till and others were customers. Everyone had lots of fun role playing in our
Chinese Restaurant. The students have
been pestering me every day to do it
again! We might have 2 restaurants running this Friday – I’m sure all the food
served will be delicious
ART
There are some fabulous ‘musical instrument’ artworks hanging in the middle room ready for Seniors and Friends
Day. I was impressed at how clever the
students were at drawing tambourines,
drums, triangles, maracas and musical
notation! They look wonderful.
MATHS
We have been exploring 3D this week.
Thanks to the mums who have been
sending in recycled boxes etc as they
have come in handy already! We sorted
all the ‘junk’ into groups according to
shape, size, colour and texture. Students
also learnt about ‘faces’ of a 3D object
by drawing around the faces of boxes
and containers onto butchers paper.
ENGLISH
We have been busy little bees, making
‘verb bees’ during our grammar sessions this week. We have bees who are
cooking, singing, swimming, flying,
crying, diving, skating and more! They
will all go on display in our room to
help us remember that verbs are doing
words.
HSIE
On Monday we will be learning about
‘Hannukah – the festival of lights’. If
you have any books or interesting
‘Hannukah type things’ please send
them in! J thanks
PRIMARY POST
COSTUMES AND PROPS FOR
SENIORS AND FRIENDS DAY
We are very excited about the items
we will be presenting next Thursday.
I have suggested to students that they
dress up as a swagman to add visual
appeal to performance of ‘Bob the
Swagman’. What sort of clothing
would be suitable for this? Blue
jeans, flannelette shirt, or plain coloured shirt, boots or sandshoes and a
country style hat.
In addition students who have access
to a ukulele; toy guitars or who would
like to make a pretend guitar out of
cardboard can use these to pretend to
play along as we sing ‘The Grandparents Song’ which has a strong guitar/
ukulele sound.
EXCURSION & CUP CAKE SALE
ON WEDNESDAY
Later this month (Tuesday 27th and
Wednesday 28th) students from primary class will be involved in an overnight excursion to Copeland Tops
State Conservation Area and Camp
Cobark. Parents who have not yet
paid could you please do so as
quickly as possible so we can finalise
the financial side of this activity. Next
Wednesday we will sell cup cakes
and slices at recess to raise funds to
supplement the cost of food for the
excursion. While I will make some
things for sale I would appreciate donations from parents. If you are able
to do this could you let me know by
sending me an email on my school
email account:
[email protected]
so I can get some idea of how much
food we will have available for sale. I
will get students in the class to take
ownership of this activity by assisting
with selling the products.

ANCIENT HISTORY
The students are commencing the last topic of the
Preliminary Ancient History course on Tuesday EARLY ISRAEL.
ISRAEL For this, students need a copy of
the NIV Study Bible, which can be purchased from
the office for $30. This also becomes a textbook for
the HSC Course. This new topic forms the basis of
the HSC unit - ISRAEL AND JUDAH - FROM
THE REIGN OF SOLOMON TO THE FALL OF
JERUSALEM. We are borrowing the textbook “THE
NEAR EAST”, from Heritage College in Sydney.
But if the students are wishing to purchase their own
copy @ $50, I have 3 copies available.
The student’s personal Historical Research task is due
on 20th and 21st March.
March This involves a written
report and an oral presentation.
The final exam in Preliminary Ancient History is
scheduled for Tuesday, 3rd April
GENERAL
UNIFORM REMINDER
We would like to remind you of a few key issues relating to uniform which need addressing,
especially with the girls.
1.
Please ensure girls under shirts/singlets are WHITE and
are tucked into their skirts.
2.
Shoes must be BLACK polishable leather that give good
foot support.
3.
Jewellery should be restricted to watches and stud earrings. Numerous bracelets in a variety of materials are
being worn, and although “cool” they are not school uniform.
Parents, we appeal to you, to support the staff by ensuring your
child is correctly dressed when they leave home.

LIBRARY
HELP! HELP! I would love a volunteer who could take the School Photo
Album home and glue pictures in it for me. Glue and Album provided. We
try to keep all the photos from the Newsletter and those hanging up
around the school. Students are often seen in the Library pouring over
Albums from past years and remembering past happy times. Do we
have a willing volunteer. Contact Ruth Lynch 0247 599 383
