Year 2 Rainforest topic quotes Curriculum Review Spring Term Year 2 Our first topic of 2015 was ‘Antarctica’. We were excited to hear that ‘the Deep’ in Hull was planning to welcome some Emperor penguins all the way from Antarctica. After carrying out some research, we used our knowledge to design a brand new area for ‘the Deep’ to house the penguins. Sadly, we learned that some of our life style choices are melting the ice in Antarctica and threatening the very existence of the native wildlife. In order to reduce the rate of melting, we created some posters to persuade people to make healthier environmental choices. We even told Miss Clarke that she should travel by bus to school! We travelled back in time to 1901 and learned all about Edward Shackleton’s hazardous journey to the Antarctic. Using our Maths skills, we planned our very own expedition to Antarctica. Some of us struggled to stick to our budget though! After a well-earned half term break, we returned to school to be immersed in our brand new ‘Rainforest’ topic. We had great fun creating some beautiful collages based on the different layers of the rainforest. After watching some video clips, we imagined what life would be like if we lived in the rainforest. Some of us were very keen to travel by boat to school and to eat fried banana leaves! One of the highlights of our topic was visiting Yorkshire Wildlife Park to see squirrel monkeys, baboons and other animals that live in rainforests. “I enjoyed learning about poison dart frogs.” Loris “My favourite part of the topic was visiting Yorkshire Wildlife Park.” Danielle “I enjoyed creating a collage of the layers of the rainforest.” Gracie “My favourite part was learning about the different animals in the rainforest.” Brydie
