MAKING RADIATION VISIBLE
Faster Isotopic
Threat Identification
For decommissioning, homeland security and emergency
response operations where the detection and
identification of radioisotopes is essential, the SM1000
is at the forefront of combining advanced sensing
technologies with clear data presentation and intuitive
screen controls.
The superior speed and accuracy of the SM1000 allows
users to accelerate decision making in mission critical
scenarios and gain valuable time in addressing
radiation threats.
Using CsI and CZT sensors, the SM1000 combines the
advantages of these sensors with advanced algorithms
to offer rapid analysis and identification of radioactive
isotopes in a complex, mixed radiation field. The superior
accuracy of the device is attributed to the excellent
energy resolution achieved (2.5% @ 662keV FWHM). An
optional integrated solid state neutron detector also
allows for the detection of neutrons in the radiation field.
Operational Advantages
Specifically designed to be one of the fastest and most
practical Radioisotope Identifiers (RIID) in the market, the
SM1000 uses CsI for the search phase and initial
identification process. Radionuclides that are detected
as a possible threat in the initial process are then
inspected further by the CZT co-planar grid detector.
Combining the scintillator and semiconductor sensors
ensures the performance of the device is not affected
by temperature or varying operating conditions.
The SM1000 is an ergonomically shaped handheld
scanner, making it easy to manipulate. The construction
is robust and waterproof so it can be decontaminated
with high pressure water jets if necessary.
At the top of the unit, a bright, high resolution screen
provides clear graphical presentation of the SM1000’s
analytical output. As with modern smartphones, the
screen is touch sensitive and uses familiar touch
controls to reduce the training input required to use
the device successfully. A hard key navigation and
control interface is also provided for convenience.
Data management is another strength of the SM1000.
Units are provided with Bluetooth and WiFi
connectivity so that data can be easily transferred to a
laptop or other data collection device – or to Cloudbased storage solutions.

Protective Carrying Case
and Accessories
The SM1000 is supplied in a heavy-duty, foam-lined
carrying case for safe transport. To ensure operators
are able to use the SM1000 and conveniently carry
out other tasks at hand, the device is supplied with a
belt holster.
Also supplied are a Wall Charger with an international
power supply, data logging software, an operating
manual and the unit’s test certificates.
Applications
• Emergency First Responders
• Security screening by customs, border
control, police, fire and rescue services
• Nuclear power facility checks
• Decommissioning
• Decontamination
• Government laboratories
• Medical and research facilities
• Environmental assessments
Clear Graphical Data and
Alarm Display
The SM1000 uses Innovative Physics’ patented
approach for Isotopic Identification to provide rapid
collection and analysis of spectral data.
Results are displayed in clear graphical formats.
The user can select each report with a simple touch of
the screen.
Isotopes identified and the intensity of each present,
can be displayed in multiple graphical formats to meet
end user requirements. Exposure alarms are shown
with colour-coded graphics and supported with LED
flashing lights and an audible buzzer.
