Edward The Enthusiast
Our first and main user will most likely be a middle aged
Caucasian male that enjoys the wilderness. As creators, we
are not going to take away the fact that there will be
female users. The female users would have similar
characteristics to the male. They probably reside in a
rural, and they probably own land. Most of our users will
have low to medium education level. Conversely, their
income level will also be low to middle class. A priority for
the Application includes making it very easy to use because this user will not have a high
knowledge using technology. We plan on helping them by giving reminders to input
data.
However, this user is very passionate about the outdoors and wildlife. They
probably participate in some other self-sustaining activities like natural heat. This
profile fits a politically conservative; maybe to the point of libertarian. The motivation
for daily use of the app would be further deepening their hobby. They would be
interested in sharing information with other enthusiasts to better their personal Maple
Syrup Production like popular tapping areas or various methods of production. Their
worries would include disrespect or destruction of the land and its resources.
Scenario #1
Edward wakes up on a brisk March morning in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. He
walks about his land checking all of his taps, while frequently looking at his phone. The
application is up on his phone where for him to be able to record and measure the
amount of sap. From the homepage on the Application, he can track progress on various
taps. He can go to view the amount of sap and the amount produced. He would then
navigate to his next tree where he can record the amount of sap and production from the
tree. As the afternoon rolls around, Edward sees that the temperature is perfect to tap a
tree. The Application can show the current temperature. After Edward finds a new tree
to tap, he can record that information and go home until tomorrow. After Edward arrives
home, he browses through the Application on his phone. He has the ability to view the
neighboring tappers, and how they are doing. He understands that his friend, Bob, can
tap the smaller trees earlier because it does not take so long for them to warm up. He
will keep posted on Bob’s data, so that Edward can learn from his experience.
Sherman The Scientist
The secondary user for the Application would be a
Scientist. The Scientist would probably live near a
University, but they may or may not have access to land.
They would have a high level of education and a medium
to high income level.
The passion that drives the scientist would be tracking
data. They would not be as interested in networking, as
much as, finding the most efficient and effective means of Maple Syrup Production. Their
goal would involve solving or discovering a problem within science. They may be
interested in various areas that produce more maple syrup or more sap. This group finds
their work interesting from a procedural standpoint. Both users would be concerned
with care of nature and all of its resources.
Scenario #2
Sherman the Scientist is a biologist who is very interested in finding the most
efficient ways to extract sap from various trees. When he begins his work, she scans
through the Application to find the various maple trees in the area. When he finds the
type of tree, he can look at its production records. He would probably go in the field to
find similar instances. As a scientist, Sherman will practice his theories through
researching the various trees. He can use the Application by researching the data put up
in the area regarding tree diameter size, tapping temperature, and location to help gain
the most sap in the shortest amount of time. This will also bring the Scientist into a
network with the Enthusiast. It could be beneficial for both parties. They both want to
preserve and protect the land while enjoying their similar passions.
