LOOKING FOR COLLEGE MONEY? SCHOLARSHIPS WITH MAY – JUNE 2017 DEADLINES Below, you will find a list of scholarship to get you started on your search. But first, here’s a few key points to remember when choosing and applying for scholarship: Read qualifying instructions carefully – you don’t want to spend lots of time on an award that you are not right for. Limit the competition for award by applying to scholarship close to home but don’t be afraid to apply for national scholarship awards. Respond carefully to all essay prompts the key is always to be creative and specific, but to also be sure to respond to the questions you are asked. If you will be requesting letters of recommendation: o Make sure to give your recommenders information about the scholarships so that they can focus on the appropriate attributes in your letters. o Develop relationships with your school faculty, staff and administration. Make sure that you choose someone who knows you well and views you in a positive light. Watch out for Scholarship Scams!! Scam warning signs include: fee requirements, money-back offers or guarantee, credit card or banking account info requirements, unsolicited emails. Ask your Program Coordinator or Academic Coach about scholarships not listed in this packet. Also, your high school counselors work hard to provide scholarship information, so check with your guidance counselors for more information on scholarships and other opportunities. Lastly, you can check with specific colleges of your interest to review available scholarships through the institution. Remember to think outside of the box in your search for funding, GOOD LUCK!!
