Week 2
Welcome to the 2015-2016 School Year at Sherwood Elementary!

Pre-K and Kindergarten
First Grade
This week, students in Pre-K and Kindergarten will explore
nursery rhymes through singing and movement, experience call and response form through echo singing, and
build confidence in singing through repeated practice.
This week, students in first grade will experience call and
response form through echo singing, build confidence in
singing through repeated practice, and show understanding of beat and rhythm through different songs.
Second Grade
Third Grade
This week, students in second grade will experience call
and response form through echo singing, build confidence in singing through repeated practice, and distinguish between beat and rhythm in music.
This week, students in third grade will build confidence in
singing through repeated practice, sing using the extended pentatone and identify solfege syllables they sing, and
identify the musical staff and placement of the notes on
the staff.
Fourth Grade
Fifth Grade
This week, students in fourth grade will build confidence in
singing through repeated practice, sing using the extended pentatone and identify solfege syllables they sing, experience ABA form through movement, and perform a
chant in a two-part round with body percussion.
This week, students in fifth grade will build confidence in
singing through repeated practice, sing using the extended pentatone and identify solfege syllables they sing, experience ABA form through movement, and perform a
two-part song by singing and adding percussion.
Recorders
Upcoming Events and News
Fourth and fifth graders will begin playing recorders at the
end of September. Please make sure your child knows
where his/her recorder is located! If your child does not
have a recorder, school recorders are available for use
during music class. Third graders will begin learning to
play the recorder in the Spring. If you would like to order
a recorder for your child, the school will place an order in
December, and order forms will be sent home at that
time.
Our Sherwood Choir will begin rehearsals in September
2015 this school year. All students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th
grades are welcome to join! We will rehearse after school
on Tuesdays from 2:35-3:35 pm in the music room every
week. Permission forms will be sent home in advance of
our rehearsals.
