National Poetry Month Project: AP English 4 Part 1: Analysis & Folder Your task is to analyze, discuss, and build an understanding of a unique group of contemporary and classic poems. 1. Select poems. Make your choices from the chart below. Use your textbook to look at all of the poems; after group discussion weighing the merits of each option, decide on your list of four poems. You will submit a copy of this list to me by the end of class, 3.22.16. Narrative 20th Century Classic (Select 1) (Select 1) (Select 2) “As I Walked Out One Evening” “Jabberwocky” p. 712 “Annabel Lee” p. 655 “anyone lived in a pretty how town” “Carrie” p. 437 p. 441 p. 518 “La Belle Dame Sans Merci” p. 600 “A Slumber Did My Spirit Seal” “Bright Star” p. 449 p. 650 “Disillusionment of Ten O’Clock” “Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night” “Dulce Et Decorum Est” “My Last Duchess” p. 388 “Luke Havergal” p. 402 “The Love Song of J. Begin group analysis. There is NO “divide-and-conquer” mentality here! As a group, you must read and analyze each poem. (This will take several days). As part of your group’s analysis, you must explore four different strategies for analyzing poetry. Each method must be used on a single poem; you choose which strategy to use on which poem. Your group must collaborate to produce a written product for each analysis! SOAPS TPCASTT DIDLS Annotation 3. Reflect. After a thorough group discussion of each poem and a collaborative analysis using one of the above strategies, each group member must reflect upon the poem. These written reflections should be at least half a page long and be completed independently and collected with the group analysis. Be sure to use MLA formatting. Be consistent in the formatting of the reflections. 4. Organize your folder. You need to have the following items secured in the brads of your folder or notebook and organized with tabbed dividers: Coversheet with heading and group member names List of poems and poets Narrative Poem: Copy or typed text of the poem with completed strategy and reflections Classic Poem: Copy or typed text of the poem with completed strategy and reflections 20th Century Poem 1: Copy or typed text of the poem with completed strategy and reflections 20th Century Poem 2: Copy or typed text of the poem with completed strategy and reflections Rubric (a clean copy) You may choose to decorate or embellish your folder to add a WOW factor to it! 5. Turn in folder. Your folder is due with your poster on 4.13.16. Part 2: NPM Poster Your task is to create a poster advertising National Poetry Month.
