Newsletter No 25 25 August 2016 Tena Koutou Katoa, Talofa Lava, Greetings to you all, On Friday September 16th staff will be attending a paid union meeting at Manukau. This is around future funding of schools and is to be attended by secondary teachers, primary teachers and principals. It starts at 1.00pm so we will need to finish school at 12.00 noon in or der for teacher s to have lunch and get to the meeting. I do apologise, I r ealise that this is inconvenient for parents but it is an important issue for schools. You may have seen/heard the discussions going on in the media around this issue. Parents will need to organise for their children to be collected as there will be no staff on site that afternoon. Further reminders will be in future newsletters. Reading Together Our Reading Together Workshops for this term started on17th August. It is not to late to join in at the next workshop on 31st August. These are from 2.00— 3.00 pm in the staffroom. This is a very enjoyable programme designed to help parents support their children’s reading. If you are interested in attending please contact the school office. Principal At the end of term 1, 2017 I am leaving Papakura Normal School, as I feel it is time to move on and do other things. I will always be passionate about Papakura Normal School, and about everyone connected to it; it is an amazing place to work, the dedication of the staff and the achievements of the students in so many areas still give me goose bumps after all this time. One of the really satisfying things, for me as the principal of Papakura Normal School, is watching the great choices most of our kids make about their futures when they leave us, the way they come back years later, standing tall and making us proud. I love the way they support each other, an ex pupil from years ago told me recently, “a Papakura Normal School kid is always a Papakura Normal School kid.” What a cool thing to say! Choosing a new principal will be exciting, they will bring different strengths and new ideas to our school, so that it continues to flourish and thrive into the future. Friends of The School Bake Sale The Friend’s of the School bake sale on Saturday morning was a gigantic success thanks to the wonderful support we received from parents. The number of cakes that came in was just amazing and we can’t thank you enough for your help. A big thank you to the dedicated group of parents, learning assistants and teachers who helped on Saturday morning at 7.30am and also to the public who came and brought all the cakes. The amazing posters advertising the bake sale were done by the extraordinary artists from room 7! The whole morning was such a success, thank you so much. We raised $1189.40. We have now raised enough to purchase our new filter for the school swimming pool. Student of the Week The student of the week is Amana Shah.
