By: Alyssa Barreda, Angelica Ortiz, Bridget Puente, and Eliseya Kessler Research about Animals There are 12,475,482,341,273 discovered animals. There is probably billions more and this does not include microscopic organisms. Every year ten-thousand unknown species are discovered. Animals aren’t the same as each other. The five most well known types of animals are mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians. I used to always think that there was human, animals, and monkeys. Then around third grade I found out about humans and animals are in the same category. A mammal is a warm blooded vertebrate. They are members of a clade of endothermic amniotes distinguished from reptiles and birds by the possession of hair, three middle ear bones. The most well known mammal is a tiger or scientifically the Panther Tigress. The tiger is the largest cat species. In captivity it can live around twenty to twenty-six years. Research about Animals Continued A bird is a warm-blooded egg-laying vertebrate. They are a group of endothermic vertebrates, characterized by feathers, a beak with no teeth, and typically they fly. Birds lay hard-shelled eggs. The bird’s scientific name is Aves. There are around 10,000 different bird species. The most popular type of bird is a Mallard Duck. A fish is any member of a paraphyletic group of organisms that consist of all gill-bearing aquatic craniate animals that lack limbs with digits. The goldfish is a very popular fish. A goldfish is a freshwater fish in the family of Cyprinidae. Scientifically a goldfish’s name is Auratus. In captivity a gold fish can live around thirty years. Reptiles are a group of tetrapod animals comprising today's turtles, crocodilians, snakes, lizards, tuatara, and their extinct relatives. They are known to have dry and rough skin. They tend to lay soft shelled eggs on land. A snake is either a lover or a biter. A snake is scientifically called Serpentes. In captivity a snake can live around nine years. An amphibian is another cold-blooded vertebrate. An amphibian’s class compromises mostly frogs. Such as frogs, toads, newts, and salamanders. They are known to have an aquatic gill-breathing larval stage. Followed by a land breathing adult stage. Genetically speaking frogs are similar to humans. Thanks to the African Clawed frog’s genome and the human’s genome. Both of the genomes have a surprising number of commonalities. Help save the Amur Leopard Today there are only 30 of the Amur Leopards left as a result of the hunting of them. Our association needs your help to protect their habitat and strengthen the law enforcement of illegal hunting. Narrative Jungle Animals There once was an elephant named Adrian who loved to walk around his jungle home in Australia. It was very green and natural and there were coconut trees and banana trees everywhere and lots lakes and rivers where he would swim and relax with his buddies. One day he was awakened by a loud sound he did not know what was happening so he decided to explore this strange noise. He walked and walked but could not find what it was or where it was coming from he decided to go back home and eat so he could continue his hunt. As he walked home the sound seemed to get stronger he decided to hold his lunch to see what it was. When he got close enough he saw that there was people cutting the trees, he wondered why anyone would want to destroy his beautiful home. He went to tell his friends; Marissa the monkey, Harry the hippo, Lucy the koala, Katy the cheetah, Mario the Tucan and Gabriel the lion they were all very confused. They followed Adrian to where he said the noise was coming from, to get a better look Marissa went to the top of the highest trees to get a better look, she managed to see a sign that said "Area closed for destruction". She started to worry; she told everyone what this could mean for the jungle. They all decided to take action to save their home, it was getting late so they went home and started to plan how to stop those people from destroying their home. Narrative Continued They decided it would be best if the larger animals went first in exposing themselves that way they could protect themselves with their bodies and strength if the humans decided to take action against them, then the smaller animals would go in and see how they could help. They all agreed and went home so that they would be well rested and ready for their plan. In the morning Mario flew over the trees and woke everyone. They all got up ate and started making their way to the construction sight and the larger animals started closing in on the machines and workers. When one of the workers spotted Adrian they all got a huge net and started wrapping it around the elephant when the other animals saw this they started running to him to help but they did the same with all of the friends. When all of them were trapped they were released into giant cages and loaded onto an airplane. They all were very confused and tried to rip open the cages but no matter how hard they tried they could not break the thick bamboo cages. They all fell asleep trying to escape. When everyone woke up they were inside of a big room and all of the animals were in huge cages separated by species. They waited to see what was going to happen to them and in a couple of minutes a lot of trucks came into the room and loaded up different animals. They were all taken their separate ways nervously screaming. When the trucks stopped Adrian and the other animals saw a smaller version of his jungle home, they slowly stepped out into the dirt and started to explore. They did not know what this strange place was but it seemed to be great. People would come and feed them and others would cheer for them for doing tricks. They made new friends but every once in a while they would remember being free with other animals in their beautiful home.
