parole? YES!

?
If I still owe fines and fees? MAYBE. If your fines and fees
were part of your SENTENCE or a condition of completing
your PROBATION or PAROLE, you will likely still have to pay
them before your rights are restored. In this case, please call
the Restoration of Rights Department of the Secretary of the
Commonwealth’s Office at 804-692-0104.
8
Without registering to vote? NO! Restoration of civil rights
does not automatically register you to vote. You must register
to vote and indicate when your rights were restored. If you
have completed your sentence and probation/parole as of
April 22, 2016, your rights were restored on that day.
8
If my sentence and probation/parole was completed after
April 22, 2016? NO, you must wait until the Governor restores
your rights. The Governor has indicated this will happen on
a monthly basis. Visit commonwealth.virginia.gov/ror to see if
your rights have been restored.
?
If my name is not listed on the Secretary of the
Commonwealth’s website in the database? MAYBE. The
database is not complete and there is no master list of
people who have served time in Virginia. If you have tried the
database because you think you might be eligible, but your
name does not appear, please call the Restoration of Rights
Department at the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s Office
at 804-692-0104.

Do you have a photo ID? You will need one on Election Day
in order to cast your ballot. You can get a FREE voter photo
ID from your local registrar. Please note that this ID is only
used for voting and may not be considered a valid form of
identification for other life circumstances like cashing checks
or renting an apartment.

Get involved! Did you know that before the Governor’s
April 22 announcement, there were more than 400,000
disenfranchised Virginians who could not register? Will you
help us organize to ensure that all Virginians are able to vote?
Virginia Organizing has been working to ensure access to the
polls for all since 1999.
VOTE! Once your rights are restored and you have
registered to vote, you are able to vote in Virginia’s yearly
elections. National elections are very important, but local
and state elected officials have power to make policies that
matter to all of us — like budget priorities, district borders,
and voter eligibility guidelines at the state level and business
requirements and issues affecting schools at the local level.
