Students will be given an Oreo cookie. Each student will write how it looks, smells, sounds, feels, and then finally tastes. They will not be allowed to use the words hard, soft, black, white, brown, chocolate, sweet or vanilla in their descriptions. Once they have completed this activity, we will talk about how they will be writing their own origin myth, and that the focus will be descriptive writing. The students will have to address at least 3 of the five senses in their story. Students will then be given a selection of origin myths to read, and will be given time to brainstorm and complete a graphic organizer in class (Time permitting). If it is not completed in class, it will be assigned as homework, and will be due Wednesday morning before the first period bell rings. READING LOGS ARE DUE TODAY.
