We have many very tired students who are looking forward to their holiday. I know my own kids have been nursing runny noses for the last couple of weeks and Mr just turned 8 tells me he is looking forward to a couch day in his pj’s. Important Dates for Terms 3 and 4: Last week we took 12 senior students to Taupo for the annual Mathsmatters competition. Taupo Intermediate hosts this competition annually and we are invited to attend. This year we took four teams, two Year 6 and two Year 5 teams. All our teams did extremely well within the high pressured environment of competition. The teams have 40 minutes to complete 20 maths questions. We were very excited however this year to have the winning Year 5 team and for our second Year 5 team to be placed 4th. Well done on an amazing effort. 22nd September—Have a Go Cricket sessions 23rd September—Follow up Calf Agricultural Day talk 12.00pm 24th September—Follow up Lamb and Goat Agricultural Day talk 12.00pm 26th September—Ride to School and Shared Breakfast (Postponed) 26th September—Term 3 ends 9th October—Board of Trustees Meeting 13th October - Term 4 begins 13th October—Agricultural Day 22nd October—Group Day 27th October—Labour Day 28-31 October—Senior Camp 31st October—Waikato A & P Show Day 15th November—Hypnotist Evening with Dave Upfold 21st November—Annual Hangi 17th December—Term 4 ends Adidas Fun Run A big thank you to everyone that supported the Adidas Fun Run which was run in conjunction with our school cross country. Prizes earned by students by obtaining sponsorship for the Adidas Fun Run have arrived and will be given out to students at 2.30pm on Wednesday 24th September. On Wednesday this week it is ‘World school milk day’. At 10.30 Fonterra Milk for schools are going to participate in a national ‘Big slurp’ and drink our school milk together. Pokuru School decided that for a little extra fun we would have a ‘Onesies’ (pyjama) day at the same time. Obviously if you don’t have a onesie you can come in your pj’s. We are asking for a coin donation and these funds will go towards our Guide Dog that we sponsor. At the end of last year we purchased new school shirts for occasions when students are representing Pokuru. These replaced the grey polos that have been worn for a number of years. We still have these and now that they are surplus to requirements they are available for a donation of $5 each. For those families that are keen on a school uniform this would be a great option. They wear well and wash up well. Term One and Four are Sunsmart terms and in our school this means that all students are required to wear sun hats. Our school has a Sun hat available from the office for $15 and from Term 4 of this year these will be compulsory. We do have a few second hand hats available for a reduced cost. If you are interested please check in at the office. I would like to thank all those families that have taken on board our 20th of the month payment of accounts. Sending them out via email has made a noticeable difference to the payment of accounts. If you are not receiving emailed copies please contact Vicki at the school office. Term 4 will be upon us all too soon and already the calendar is looking hectic. To all those families that are new to Pokuru School, day one of Term 4 is traditionally our Agricultural day. With half the school involved in this event it is quite a significant event on our annual calendar and a very popular community day. If your child is not involved it is a normal school day for them in that we have planned for them to be in class with a teacher for the day. Obviously the programme planned for this day is special and looks somewhat different to other days, but I do ask that students who are not involved in Ag day do attend school as staff have planned for them. For those involved in Ag day registration starts at 9.30. Mrs Purves will be based in the PMP shed on that day and will take your registrations there. Judging then starts at 10am. There will be a food stall with sausages and drinks on sale. If non-competing students want to purchase lunch their teachers will collect money and collate their orders at 9am in preparation for lunch time. Mark your calendars for Term 4. Our annual Hangi is on November the 21st and we are selling tickets to a Hypnotist show on November the 15th. All the money raised from this event goes to our school. There will be no assembly this week and school finishes at the normal time of 2.55pm. We reopen again after the holidays on Monday 13th October at 9am. Term 4 finishes on Wednesday 17th December. Enjoy your holidays.
