The Accident
Poor Mibs Father gets in a
bad car accident and a
serious comma. Mibs wants
to go see to go see him, but
her mother won’t let any of
her kids go because the
hospital is so far away. Mibs
mom leaves to go see her
father and the kids are stuck
with the pastors’ wife for
Mibs birthday. The kids end
up stowing away on a pink
bible sales man bus, along
with the pastors’ kids. Mibs
starts hearing people’s
thoughts through ink on
their skin and she figures
out that’s her savvy. Lester,
the bus driver, figures out
the kids are on the bus, but
agrees to take them. Soon
the kids finally get to their
dad and Mibs is able to talk
to him through his tattoo. In
the end Mibs dad wakes up
and he’s finally out of his
comma.
Theme
The theme would be
• Man vs. Himself
• Man vs. Nature
Man versus himself because of
Mibs trying to figure out who she
is and how she will use her
powers. Also Man versus Nature
because of Mibs Brothers; Fish
and Samson dealing with their
powers, which are: Hurricanes
and Electricity.
Newberry Honor
The book Savvy was given the
Newberry Award because of the action
packed pages. Also the way Ingrid
Law, the writer, made every character
unique in his or her own way was quite
amazing. Savvy definitely deserves this
award! The way Ingrid pulls you in the
book makes you want to read as soon
as you start the first page! Ingrid Law
says, "Do you ever feel like life is just
some weird dream and someday you'll
wake up and find that you're someone
else entirely?"
