Conclusions
1. Shrinking, fragmentation and retreating of
glaciers
2. Increase in number and decrease in area
3. Certain elevation zones are very sensitive
4. Glacier retreat rate is accelerated once the
lake is formed
Way Forward
• Identify the hot spot area for regular
monitoring of glaciers
• Access to the better quality satellite images
• Develop a quick methodology for glacier
monitoring
• Glacier ice volume estimation
