Reduction percents and parts can become confusing. Areas to watch where problems may arise include the following:
-50-50 means --- 100% or 1 to 1 to the painter.
-When 1/4 or 25% reduction is recommended, make sure it is not interpreted as 1 part reducer to 3 parts
paint…which is 33%.
The same confusion can occur with the remaining percentages. A painter might say, “I reduced a third”. What he may
really be saying is: 1 part reducer to 2 parts paint, thinking in terms of 1/3 of the total mixture being reduced as
opposed to 1/3 of the paint volume being reduced.
