The season begins! Opening night will showcase the NHSO’s passion for
community, artistry, and defying expectations. Pianist Ilya Yakhusev returns
to the Woolsey stage to perform both of Shostakovich’s Piano Concerti,
which are considered by many to be his most lyrical and beautiful works.
Mendelssohn’s delightful “Italian” Symphony and the premiere of Hannah
Lash’s third chapter in the Lash/Voynich Project will spark the imagination
and set the stage for a year of inspiring concerts!

DVORAK’S NEW WORLD

While visiting the US in the late 19th Century, Dvorak was struck by Native
American and African American folk songs; this music inspired his “New
World” Symphony, now one of the most internationally beloved orchestral
works. Program highlights on this concert also include Schubert’s
“Unfinished” Symphony and Bruch’s Violin Concerto, performed by the
NHSO’s incomparable concertmaster, Ani Kavafian.

Experience the majesty of Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 as the NHSO
celebrates a New Haven community treasure, the Yale School of Music.
The program will include music by YSM composition professor Martin
Bresnick and YSM Dean Robert Blocker performing Mozart’s Piano
Concerto No. 23, all on the stage of Yale’s Woolsey Hall.

season with Handel’s beloved vocal masterpiece, Messiah. A portion of
the proceeds from this concert will be donated to the New Haven
Community Soup Kitchen.

The NHSO welcomes the newest member of its New Generation Artist
roster, Daniel Hsu, to the Woolsey Stage for Schumann’s Concerto for
Piano in A minor. The program will also feature two masterpieces of the
Classical era: Mozart’s graceful Symphony No. 40 in G minor and
Haydn’s Symphony No. 83, nicknamed “The Hen” for its bird-like sounds.

Sibelius’ Violin Concerto and the NHSO plays the culminating event of
the two-year Lash/Voynich Project: the world premiere of the entire
Voynich Symphony. Be part of this historic moment in classical music and
hear this work before it is performed by orchestras around the world for
generations to come!

community during her tenure as concertmaster at a special season finale

Mendelssohn, and Kreisler.
