President’s Award – Sue Quante
From Susan Quante – President’s Award Winner:
Dear Honored Award recipients, the MYSA Board of Directors and affiliates,
When Jim McCarthy called me, I was very surprised that someone from MYSA would
be calling me. He informed me that I was the recipient of the President’s Award for MYSA.
Wow! I have not been involved in soccer for many years.
I retired as President of the program and from the program in 2008. I left the
program in trustworthy hands with reliable and loving friends. I have always been proud
of the program and still am. Certainly not because of anything I did, but because it
continues to bring the game of soccer to those who might never experience the sport we all
love. I do not feel I deserve any accolades for doing what needed to be done. I will,
however, accept this award, on behalf of the many pioneers who started the program, the
players and their parents, past and present, current, and past board members of SPENSA,
the coaches who continue to send their players to volunteer, the coaches who volunteered
or still volunteer and on and on. It was and is because of their dedication to the program
and the children who deserve it, that it still exists.
I am deeply gratified for this nomination. I am truly honored and humbled.
Sincerest regards,
Susan Quante

President’s Report
Submitted by: Jim McCarthy
I hope to see all our members at the 2017 Annual General Meeting of the Missouri Youth Soccer
Association (MYSA). On behalf of the 30,000+ youth members of the association I would like
to thank each one of you who donate your time to promote, foster and perpetuate the game of
soccer in the state of Missouri.
Last year I explained that we learned from our mistakes and made changes to our hosting
agreement for State Cup. We limited our age group brackets to set amounts of teams topping out
at 16 teams in an age group. Dates to complete qualifying games were set and adhered to. The
summer state cup was played completely on turf fields eliminating rain soaked fields. Mother
Nature did throw some unseasonably warm weather at us, but we finished the tournament right
on schedule.
I would like to congratulate the 16 under girls’ team from FC Kansas City as Missouri’s only
representative at the 2016 National Championship Series.
I believe the concussion awareness training that all coaches and referees now take prior to
receiving their registrations is paying dividends. With more people being aware of the potential
issues, players are not being sent back out to play unless we are positive they are fit. Thanks to
all of you for ensuring we keep our injury awareness education up to date.
During our last fiscal year, we had positive business results. We ended the 2015/2016 fiscal year
with positive net revenues of over $91,000 versus our forecasted budget amount of $138,000.
The difference can be accounted for by a few factors including, but not limited to, hiring of an
accounting person and security costs association with state and presidents cup.
How will small-sided games affect our competitions? The Missouri Youth Soccer Association
board of directors has approved a new competition for the 11 under and 12 under age groups
beginning this spring. This competition will more than likely be held in conjunction with the
spring President’s Cup tournament.
I would like to thank the MYSA staff for all the work that they have done in the past year to
make this association what it is today. Our accounting person recently tendered a resignation so
we are using a service until we decide what course of action to take. Kathy continues to focus on
Gotsoccer and the registration process. She will assist Nik in the transition with the accounting
side. Denny continues to lead our coaching education programs and Nik leads the entire team as
well as being the tournament director for both President’s and State Cup.
Thank you to Nik, Kathy, and Denny.
Thank you to the officers of the association, district and alternate district commissioners for your
time and efforts.
Vice President’s Report

Welcome to the 2017 Missouri Youth Soccer Association AGM!
Thank you for taking the time to join us and for all you do to support the thousands of youth soccer
players and our member organizations throughout our state. Your tireless efforts enable so many
kids to experience and develop a love for the beautiful game. As we reflect on 2016, it is
appropriate for all of our members to take a moment to pat themselves on the back for a job well
done.
The last year was another successful one for MYSA. Under the leadership of our president,
executive director, board of directors and excellent staff, MYSA is on the most solid financial
ground in its history.
At the center of our mission is to enable more kids, regardless of ability level, to find success
(however they define it) in soccer and to develop a lifelong love for the game that has given so
many of us so much joy and enrichment. Our membership is strong, forward-thinking, and
committed. MYSA stands ready to meet the challenges and opportunities presented by the
evolution of youth soccer in the United States.
These are exciting times for youth soccer in Missouri and throughout the United States. I thank
you for giving me the opportunity to serve and I look forward to being of continued service as we
move forward together.
Secretary’s Report
Submitted by Robyn Gross
Welcome everyone to the Missouri Youth Soccer Association’s 2016 AGM. We hope you enjoy the
meeting, lunch, and awards.
I hope I have served the organization in a manner to which has been both positive and beneficial to the
position. The decisions made by the Board are made for the benefit of everyone in the organization.
Congratulations to all of the award winners this year. Each of you is very deserving of the award you
received. Thank you for the immeasurable hours you have spent for the sake of the players and MYSA.
Thank you for your dedication and the countless hours you provide to the players and to the game. The
best of luck to all involved in MYSA and congratulations to the new board members elected.
Treasurer’s Report
Submitted by: Warren Brown
Another positive financial year for Missouri Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) with a profit of $91,000
for 2015/2016 as reported by our accounting firm Brown, Smith, and Wallace.
Robyn Lamote has left MYSA as the position of book keeper and we wish her well. Nik is in the process
of hiring a part time replacement with Quickbooks experience and can assist others in the office as
required.
The Financials of the organization are strong with over $500,000 in operating funds and $290,000 in
savings and investments (as of 1/3/17). The current board has been conservative with the membership’s
funds to be able to be a financially strong organization for now and in the long term.
Currently Nik with the assistance of the MYSA Board are looking at a possible purchase of an office as a
long-term investment and long term home for our staff in the St. Charles area. Nik has found a suitable
location and currently are looking at build out plans and budgeting before we make an offer on the
property.
Once again, the staff should be commended for their diligent efforts to increase revenues and decrease
cost.

Program Reports
Olympic Development Program – 2016 ODP Report
Submitted by Denny Vaninger, Director of Coaching
In 2016, MYSA registered appropriately 385 players in the Olympic Development Program (ODP).
Participants include boys and girls born from 2000-2005.
All twelve teams (6 for each age group) have completed initial try-outs/pool participation. Currently,
every district in Missouri is represented on various teams.
A Sub-Regional showcase is scheduled for all available teams. It will take place in Memphis,
Tennessee in February of 2017.
The Missouri State Team and alternates will be selected by March 1st, 2017. Players from
these teams will be invited to attend the Region II summer event. This does not include
the 2005 age group, which is currently a developmental age.
A summer camp will also take place at Lindenwood University for the developmental 2005 and
2006 boys and girls.
Also, available this ODP season is an international trip to England and Scotland. Currently,
we have one team planning to participate in this opportunity.
Our current ODP coaching staff mainly consists of college coaches, USSF coaches, and
national licensed coaches.
The ODP program is a player identification program. Throughout the ODP season, we strive
to have our players seen by college coaches, regional staff and national staff personnel.
The ODP program is currently under review from the state to the national levels to better identify its role
and how it can positively affect players that participate in it annually.
Missouri State Cup & Presidents Cup Report
While most of our programming and daily focus is around developing players at all levels, the one
exception to this is the Missouri State Cup. Each year Missouri Youth Soccer holds the Missouri State
Cup competition as part of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series. The sole purpose of this
event is to identify the best teams in our state to represent us at the Regional and National level.
To help us identify those teams that can compete at this level, Missouri Youth Soccer will be introducing
the Missouri State League in the 2018/2019 season. This league will be fashioned in the image of the
highly successful Midwest Regional League with pre-qualifying, self-scheduled games and true
relegation/promotion bracketing that will offer the ability for bracket seeding of the State Cup tournament.
Additionally, this league will be the gateway into the Midwest Regional League and will also pre-qualify
teams for seeding directly into the Missouri Presidents Cup versus the current Qualifying Game format.

Midwest Regional and US Youth National Leagues
Missouri Youth Soccer Association integrates as one of 14 separate State Associations that are part of
Region II of US Youth Soccer. US Youth Soccer is the top Youth Soccer Association in the country with
3 million players participating at all levels of competition. From this competition, the top teams form and
compete at the local, state, regional and national level…this structure has formed the backbone of both the
US Men’s and US Women’s National Teams with Missouri players being part of these rosters going back
over 50 years.
Once play has advanced beyond the local level, the teams participate in the Midwest Regional League
(MRL) which is the competitive league for Region II of USYS, from here the teams advance to the US
Youth National league through promotion in the MRL or out of the National Championship Series.
Missouri set new records in terms of both overall participation and team placement with over 90 teams
competing in the Midwest Regional League and the most ever teams competing in the Premier 1 and
Premier 2 divisions for the 2016/2017 season. Additionally, Missouri placed five teams into the top league
in the United States…the US Youth National League.
As of the 2016/2017 season, Missouri has been granted a MRL “must-play” weekend in both the spring
and fall seasons thus allowing our teams to play high level competition while staying in the state. The
Midwest Regional League is continually recognized as one of the top-level leagues in the United States
and is a pathway into the US Youth National League.
Kohl’s America Cup Report
The Kohl's Cup is US Youth Soccer's national recreational program that is focused on bringing a fun,
festival atmosphere to recreational soccer. In June, the Lake Ozark Soccer Association in Linn Creek, MO
hosted the Kohl’s Cup.
It was announced in the last 10 days that this Cup has retained a new sponsor moving forward and will
now become the Target United Cup…information will follow as it becomes available for this event.
Director of Coaching/Recreational Report
Submitted by Denny Vaninger, Director of Coaching
During the year, Missouri Youth Soccer Association conducted licensed coaching courses
in each district of the state. These mainly included Youth Coaching Certificates, “E” License
courses, and “D” License courses.
Missouri Youth Soccer has an excellent educational staff with US Soccer National licensed
coaches in every district. We will continue to provide instructional and educational programs
to ensure that coaches at all levels are provided the necessary resources to meet the needs
of players at all age and skill levels. Missouri Youth Soccer is working with the National
Soccer Coaches Association (NSCAA) to provide additional coaching education. We have
scheduled an Advanced National Diploma for March 2017.
This year, we began the Discover Soccer Project. This project is designed to bring
organized youth soccer activities to communities currently lacking the opportunity.
Programs were initiated in the Jennings School District, The Boys and Girls Club of Missouri
and The Urban International Group.
“We're All In This Together” is a program offered to parents, coaches, and referees. Joint
parent, referee, and coach workshops offer the best opportunity for these role models to join
together and develop skills to provide positive support for youth players.
The school assembly program, “Citizenship Assembly”, is a unique approach to creating
awareness of soccer in local communities. The assembly program for schools includes
a motivational assembly with the theme of being a good student, leader and citizen. The
assembly also reminds students the importance of good grades, maintaining a positive
attitude, and working hard. These assemblies typically run 45 minutes long.
We have continued our work with the St. Louis Public School's Physical Education program
and mentoring their PE staff. We've also continued to collaborate with many non-members
of Missouri Youth Soccer Association. This includes St. Louis Sports Commission, YMCA,
the Optimist Club, and various parks and recreation organizations.
In the previous year, we have participated in Citizenship Assemblies, league meetings,
board parents, parent meetings and ODP meetings in each district. We will continue to provide
continuing education in coaching youth soccer throughout the state of Missouri. These efforts
including coaching certificates, age appropriate coaching seminars, and specific training
for coaches, parents, and players.
Missouri Youth Soccer Associations’ educational programs are designed to improve coaching
methods, but also to motivate coaches and help them enjoy training their players. Ultimately,
we work to encourage all players and coaches to have fun and enjoy playing soccer.
TOPSoccer Report
Currently, there are now two (2) TOPSoccer program in the state of Missouri. SPENSA in St Louis, which
is administrated by Kevin Byrne and his staff of volunteers and now Amanda Blackburn with Paul Klover
soccer has started a program in Sedalia. Thank you both for your dedication and hard work to make this
happen!
So what is TOPSoccer?
US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer) is a community-based training and team
placement program for young athletes with disabilities, organized by youth soccer association volunteers.
The program is designed to bring the opportunity of learning and playing soccer to any boy or girl, who
has a mental or physical disability. Our goal is to enable the thousands of young athletes with disabilities
to become valued and successful members of the US Youth Soccer family. How do I participate? Contact
your local US Youth Soccer State Association office to find out more about getting involved with a local
US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer program. You can find State Association by clicking here. Or, simply
contact your respective US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer Committee member by using the e-mail addresses
listed below.
Why do we need a TOPSoccer Program?
TOPSoccer was formed to perpetuate the US Youth Soccer mission statement which is, in part, "to foster
the physical, mental and emotional growth and development of America's youth through the sport of
soccer at all levels of age and competition." There are thousands of children with disabilities who need,
and can be provided with, the opportunity to play soccer through the TOPSoccer program.
Discover Soccer Project
The Discover Soccer Project is a needs-based developmental soccer program that introduces the sport into
underserved areas. The Project was designed in cooperation with University of Missouri – St. Louis,
Jennings School District, and Missouri Youth Soccer Association where a host (school, district or other
entity) provides space and marketing to a group of youngsters age 4-14 years old. Players from the Men’s
and Women’s program of the partner University are given instruction and receive a Youth Training
Certificate from the Director of Coaching for MYSA and Missouri Youth Soccer and its partners provides
and donates needed equipment and training aids.
An 8 week program was completed in the fall of 2016 which saw over 60 different youth players
participate in Jennings School District and currently we are planning events in coordination with the Boys
& Girls Club and Harris Stowe State University.
Risk Management Report
The risk management activities for Missouri Youth Soccer Association (MYSA) have taken on an
increased importance every seasonal year. Our first risk management activity is our online background
checks, which are processed through the Got Soccer system. Every 2 years, we reset the background
checks database and require all coaches, team managers, and referees to process a check within the system
this will be moving to an annual check in the future.
Since the beginning of the current background checks period (July 2015), we have processed
approximately 7,350 background checks. A check performed after we cleared the system in July 2016 will
be good through the 2017/2018 seasonal year. Each submission is reviewed and measured against the
same set of standards and if needed are referred to the Risk Management Committee for further
determination.
The background check is a required element for every adult that comes in contact or has access to
information about our youth players.
In addition to the background checks, US Youth Soccer has recently released an updated Code of Conduct
for all its members and has collaborated with Abuse Prevention LLC to provide further training to identify
and deter predatory individuals. This training is provided on-line and is free to all members of US Youth
Soccer and Missouri Youth Soccer and is currently suggested but not required…we anticipate that this
will become mandatory training soon.
Thanks to all of those who volunteer their time and efforts to
continue to educate and inspire our youth athletes
on a daily basis…travel safely!
