Quality Counts Verification Required for all 2016
Texas Major Livestock Shows
Starting in 2012, Quality Counts verification will be required for all youth exhibiting livestock (market and/or
breeding) at major livestock shows in Texas (including the Ft. Worth Livestock Show, San Antonio Stock Show
& Rodeo, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, Star of Texas Fair in Austin, San Angelo Livestock Show,
Sandhills Stock Show in Odessa, State Fair of Texas in Dallas, and Heart O’ Texas Fair in Waco). The
verification process will require junior exhibitors to pass an online test that measures their knowledge on quality
assurance and character education content items.
Youth are able to go online to take the test and become verified. A verification number will need to be provided
at the time of making an official entry into a Texas major livestock show. Thus, youth will need to have
completed and passed the test before the major livestock show’s entry deadline. A passing score has been
determined to be 80%.
Exhibitors are able to come by the extension office to receive training before taking the test. They will also be
able to come by the extension office and take the test online here in the office. Please call the extension office
if you have any questions.
Instructions

Go to http://qualitycounts.tamu.edu/ and select verification

Register for the test as a FFA member, 4H member, or a dual FFA/4H member

Enter your name and date of birth along with your chapter and/or county name

Complete the test

To receive your certification for successfully completing the Quality Counts Verification Exam, you
must score at least 80% . If you do not complete 80% of the questions correctly, you will be taken back
to the beginning of the test so you can attempt it again.

The test can be taken as many times as needed.

The verification # will be good for a seniors remaining show career but if you took it as a junior you will
need to take it again once you become a senior member. You will need this # when you sign up for the
stockshows.
Juniors (younger than 14 by September 1st)

NEW SPIN CLUB: Wilson County Archery Project
The Wilson County Archery Project (WCAP) provides the opportunity for our youth to experience and
grow in the world of archery. The WCAP is two archery clubs in one. The members will be part of the
Wilson County 4‐H Archery Project and also the Wilson County Archery Project Junior Olympic Archery
Development Club (JOAD). The addition of the WCAP JOAD provides the insurance needed as well as
opens doors for our young archers to expand their archery experience by allowing them to participation
in USA Archery events all the way up to the Olympics and other World archery events.
WCAP is open to all youth ages 8 to 18. Archery equipment is provided for beginners, and it is
encouraged that youth take advantage of this equipment because such equipment can be a burden on
families. By using the club's equipment, archers get the opportunity to experience the sport and gain a
better understanding of their likes and dislikes when competing thus helping them to establish the
direction they wish to go in the sport. Once the archer has chosen a path, the coaching staff can work
with the archer and parents to establish a plan to meet the archer's individual goals.
All instructors are trained by certified state instructors. Adult volunteers receive training in shooting
sports at state and regional workshops to become qualified instructors. 4‐H teen leaders may also wish to
assist with instruction. The team managers also have obtained USA Archery Level II or higher training.
Shooting sports leaders act as role models and must impart the 4‐H philosophy and youth development
objectives to 4‐H members.

future non-payment by the Adult Boosters for that individual.
Our Final Thought
We would like to thank everyone in Wilson County 4-H for showing, performing, speaking and leading our county so well this
year. You all have stepped up and shown our District that they better watch out for Wilson County. This has been a GREAT year
for Wilson County and we appreciate your continued support.
