the thrill of racing around the smooth, fast tarmac of Oulton
Park motor racing track, with plenty of vantage points where

So, whether you are going all out to win or are looking for
the personal satisfaction of finishing, we hope that you enjoy
the event as much as we intend you to!
Please take a moment to read the page of key rules in this

Registration for sprint and
standard distance events
Registration will be in the Chequers restaurant, and this

race pack.
You will not be able to enter transition without registering and
collecting your race numbers. Please register as early as you

At registration you will need to show some form of ID:
Home Nation Association members must show their

a day licence).
Non Home Nation Association members must show a form
of photo ID e.g. driving licence. All non Home Nation
Association competitors have already paid for a day licence
as part of the entry fee.
You will be marked off on the registration list, and will be
given a race pack. This will contain two race numbers,
a numbered timing chip and ankle strap. You will also
receive numbered stickers for your bike and helmet.

Race Numbers
Massage
Arrive in good time to be able to collect your numbers from
Race Registration before you start. Race numbers must be
clearly visible for all three disciplines. Use safety pins or a
race belt to attach your numbers. If wearing a race belt,
please ensure the number can be seen — during the cycling
phase a number must be displayed to the rear; and during
the running phase a number must be displayed to the front.
You will be given a sticker with your race number on to be
placed on your bike’s seat post. This must be fixed to your
bike and be shown to match your race number to allow you
to remove your bike from transition at the end of the race.
Post race massage is available for a nominal charge of £5.
Please also ensure that the seat post number is attached
to your bike – this is essential for the lap counting system
to work as it contains the 2nd timing chip that operates
this part.
Electronic Chip Timing
You will receive your race timing chip and ankle strap at race
registration. This must be attached to your ankle (this is
where it has been designed to work at its optimum and
fixing it anywhere else will jeopardise you getting your race
times). You must wear your race strap throughout the whole
race. Relay Team members will need to swap the strap over
at each transition swap over.
Please return your chip to the marshal at the finish line when
you have completed the event. You will not be allowed to
remove your bike without returning your chip and ankle
strap. If you have lost your timing chip you will be charged
£10 to remove your bike from transition. You do not need to
return your seat post sticker as the chip is disposable.
Transition
See later in the booklet for diagram. Located in the Pit Lane,
entry to this is via pit garage #1. You will not be able to enter
transition without showing your race numbers and your bike
sticker must be fixed to your bike — this is for security
reasons. Please use the “Competitors Only” entrance and
put your bike and equipment into Transition BEFORE this
area closes (9.30 am for the sprint and 12.40pm for the
standard). Please find your race number marked on the
relevant bay, and rack your bike and place any race
equipment (e.g. bike, cycle/run shoes, etc) at this spot.
Please ensure your kit does not stray into transition aisles.
It is recommended that you ‘walk through’ & familiarise
yourself with the routes to/from your bay from/to the
entrances and exits of transition prior to starting the race.
Remember to leave your bike in a low enough gear, ready
for the cycle section.
Triathlon advice & guidance
Check the FAQ section of the Xtra Mile Events website,
and the British Triathlon Website for general Information.
There will be sponsors on site on race day to answer any
specific questions that you may have that relate to their
specific fields. Make sure you are aware of the new BTF
rules, listed in this booklet and on the BTF website
Changing facilities
There are changing facilities in the shower block next to
the Parc Ferme garages. There are toilet facilities inside
Chequers, to the back of Chequers and also by the Pit Lane.
We recommend you arrive wearing your race kit. Shower
facilities are available next to Parc Ferme garages.
Parking
There is ample parking at the venue, as indicated on the
Transition Diagram (see later).
Refreshments
Chequers Restaurant will be on hand to provide a range of
food and drinks.
Local residents
There is residential accommodation surrounding the venue,
and the venue is subject to noise restrictions, so please
be quiet to avoid disturbing local residents on a Sunday
morning.
Spectators
Spectators are very welcome to watch all stages of the
event, and will find various vantage points around the track
from which to view the race. Please stay out of the marked
‘competitor only’ areas. DO NOT attempt to access the track
or any areas that are marked out of bounds. Importantly,
enjoy the event!
Dogs
PLEASE NOTE THAT DOGS ARE PROHIBITED FROM
THE VENUE.
Reminder: there is no cycling in transition: mount/dismount
your bike at the mount/dismount points.

Withdrawing partway through
You will get a free souvenir photo from the event. Our
official photographer is Tim Waterworth Photography.
Race photographs will be available to view after the event
from the photographs on the Xtra Mile Events homepage.
Please stay clear of other competitors on the track if you are
returning to transition after retiring from the event.
If you withdraw from the event at any stage before the finish,
please inform the race official and Registration/Information
Desk. This is for your own safety, and to save us from
searching for you out on the course! If you cannot complete
a stage, but wish to continue with the other disciplines in the
event, you may do so, but you will be disqualified from
overall results. You MUST inform the race official of this as
soon as you are able to do so.
British Triathlon Rules & Regulations
A full set of rules and regulations can be found at
www.xtramileevents.com/news/latest-news/
british-triathlon-competition-rules-update/
Please see the section Common Rule Infringements in this
race booklet for more information.
Relay Teams
The ‘incoming’ member of a relay team must transfer their
ankle strap containing their Race Timing Chip to the ‘outgoing’ team member in their numbered bay in transition. As
soon as the next team member has the Timing Chip they
may begin their section of the event. The 3 race sections are
Run-Bike-Run. Cyclists must not put on helmet until ankle
strap has been transferred.
Post-race collection of kit
from transition
You are asked to collect your bike and kit from the transition
area as soon as possible after you finish. If you are one of
the later finishers, we may have moved your bike into a
secure area inside one of the garages to free up your place
in transition.
Timing Points
The timing points we use between stages are:
Amendment of entry details
Run: from when the whistle goes at the start line,
to when you enter transition at the end of the run
•
Competitors must notify the organisers of any corrections to
entry details before starting the event. No exceptions will be
made afterwards. Contact us via our website, via e-mailing
[email protected] or at the Registration Desk on the
day, prior to the start of the event.
First aid
Transition 1
•
Bike: from when you exit transition on your bike to when
you enter transition at the end of the cycle
•
Transition 2
•
Run: from when you exit transition to start the run, to
when you cross the finish line
•
First aid is available on site, and a mobile ambulance crew
are able to attend to casualties out on the course.
Water / Refreshments
There is a water station available at the end of the cycle leg.
Refreshments are also available at the end of the event.
Please bring something with you to drink during and after
the race e.g. leave at transition, and/or store on your bike.
Results
Your results will be available from the TV screen and mini
printer as you cross the finish line. Prize winners will be
announced on the day, and a provisional set of results will
be posted on the Xtra Mile Events website within 24 hours
after the event, to which competitors will have 72 hours from
the time of posting to make queries.

Common rule infringements
16
Race numbers
If you are entering the standard race, the non drafting
rule applies. The sprint race is draft legal — see separate
section. For the standard race only, new BTF rules state that
the draft zone is 12 metres with 25 seconds for passing.
Remember to keep left at all times when you are not
overtaking. If you are overtaken it is your responsibility
to drop out of the overtaking cyclist’s draft zone.
Athletes need to wear their race numbers at all times during
the cycle and run section and they must be clearly visible.
During the cycle section the number needs to be displayed at
the rear and during the run it needs to be displayed at the
front – a race belt is useful for this. The race number provided
by Xtra Mile Events must not be cut down or altered in any
way. The transfer tattoos should be used in conjunction
with the official race number and are not considered as
a replacement.
Helmets
Unsportsmanlike conduct
Drafting
Helmets used for events must meet the minimum standards
of ANSI Z90, SNELL B90, EN1078 or equivalent – a CE mark
is not an approved standard. Helmets must be on and
securely fastened before removing your bike from its transition space and remain fastened until you have re-racked your
bike.
Outside assistance
Athletes must not receive outside assistance from anyone
who is not part of the event team, including being passed
drinks or helped with equipment. The only exception relating
to outside assistance is for medical issues, or when safety
may be compromised.
Transition area
Rigid boxes are not allowed in transition, only soft bags may
be used. If you transport your belongings in a rigid box, it
must be removed before the race start.
Each athlete has their own space within the transition area,
for their equipment.
You are not permitted to ‘mark’ your space, and your
equipment must not hinder other athletes as this will be
considered as ‘unsporting impedance’.
When leaving transition for the cycle leg, do not ride your
bike until you have reached the mount line. Similarly when
returning to the transition area you need to be off your bike
before the dismount line.
Litter
The discarding of gel packs and other items is becoming
a major problem at all races.
We now have a very strict NO LITTER policy.
Gel Packs — use them but bring the empty sachet back
with you.
Our race officials, event volunteers, spectators and other
competitors should be treated with respect and courtesy.
Please comply with requests from the race official and event
volunteers as it will probably benefit you, or help you avoid
a penalty.
Abusive and aggressive behaviour and language will not be
tolerated under any circumstances..
Course
You are required to follow the course outlined in the race
booklet and the race briefing. Not completing the specific
course or the right number of laps will result in you being
disqualified. It is your responsibility to know the course for
each element and the number of required laps.
Banned and illegal equipment
The use of items such as mobile phones and MP3 players
is prohibited during events. Using headphones at any time
during the race can lead to instant disqualification.
You are not allowed to use a personal recording device
(film camera) for any BTF race, this applies to head cams,
cameras on the bike, or anywhere on your body.
Nudity
Competitors who are publically nude at any point of the race
risk disqualification. You cannot therefore get ‘completely
changed’ in transition. Nudity also includes being topless
during the bike or the run.
Bare foot running
BTF rules permit bare foot running, however Xtra Mile
Events do not believe that the conditions make barefoot
running a safe option and therefore shoes must be worn.
Do not drop drinks unless you are at a drink station
or marshal position. The penalty for littering is instant
dis-qualification.

Methods for counting laps
As it can be easy to get confused when you are counting multiple laps in an event, we have put together some
tried and tested methods for counting laps.
First of all you need to remember how many laps you need to do. One tip is to write the number on your hand or arm.
Bike computer
You know the distance of the bike route, so you should be able to work out when you are on
the last lap and/or at the end of the cycle stage
Digital wrist watch
Press the lap counter button on your watch at the end of each lap.
Time
If you know roughly how long it will take you, you can use the ‘real time’ on your watch as
a guide.
Handlebar counters
Use blobs of plasticine or blue tack on the handlebars and move them across at the end of
each lap.
Cable tie
Use a cable tie attached to your handle or aero bars, and rotate it, so the loose end is up or
down, each time a lap is completed.
Alphabet
Instead of counting numbers, use the letters of the alphabet; and on each lap think of words
beginning with that letter. E.g. start with ‘A’ on the first lap, then ‘B’ on the second lap, and
