Tuxedo Park School: Making A Difference- Thankfulness
We introduced our new theme of the month this week! The students watched a short
video on different lifestyles, and we discussed what thankfulness is. We also started a
Thankful Basket in the classroom. The students will write one thing they are thankful for
every morning and place it in the basket. At the end of the month, we will see what we
are all thankful for!
Ski forms are due November 11, 2016 I know it is early to be thinking of skiing, but
Mt. Peter has requested our information by November. Please complete the two attached
forms – a TPS release and the Mount Peter informational form - and return to homeroom
teachers/advisors no later than November 11. Forms are also going home in hard copy.
Just as a reminder, all students must own helmets and wear them on all ski days. Please
contact Dawn Kranzo or Kristen Heard if you have any questions.
KMAC Saturday
Saturday, November 12, from 10 am to 12 pm, is the second KMAC Saturday of the year.
These family events focus on different aspects of STEAM with parents and children
working together. We will be building bridges and investigating engineering . In order to
have enough supplies for this event, registration is required by 9 am November 7.
Register by emailing Allyson Smith at [email protected]. What would you
like to do at the next KMac Saturday? Fill out our very short survey:

History
Grade 6 students continued their study of Europe during the Middle Ages this week.
They focused on the power of kings and the emergence of nations in Europe, learning
about King John I of England, the Magna Carta, and the Hundred Years’ War. Students
will spend much of next week preparing for an a test on this unit of study, which they will
take on Thursday.
Science
This week, students concluded their study of acceleration and began to learn about force
and friction. They focused on the four major types of friction (static, sliding, rolling, and
fluid) and the ways they encounter each in their daily lives. Fluid friction includes air
resistance, which will be extremely important as they begin their egg drop project in the
upcoming weeks.
Math
Students in grade 6 math are currently completing their 3rd unit of study involving
exponents, factors, and fractions. Unit tests for both grade 6 math groups are scheduled
for next week. Following the Thanksgiving break, our next unit of study will focus
operations involving fractions.
English
English students are entering the world of 14th century medieval England as they read
Crispin The Cross of Lead. They are learning what life was like for a serf. The essential
question posed to the
students is What does it mean to be free? Grammar lessons this
week covered the use of appositives, and writing workshop focused on organization
skills.
