AP Biology Summer Assignments

AP Biology Summer Assignments
Past students have stated that purchasing a 7th or 8th edition of Campbell Reece, Biology, textbook was
extremely helpful since they could write and highlight important information. You may want to consider
this option prior to the start of the school year.
The below assignments will not be used until 2nd semester. It is recommended that this work be
completed over the summer simply due to the fact that we move at a rapid pace with other content when
school starts. A due date will be assigned at the start of school.
1. The summer assignments for AP Biology will deal with The Unit on Ecology.
Chapter 50: An Introduction to Biology and the Biosphere
Chapter 51: Behavioral Ecology (skip this chapter for the time being)
Chapter 52: Population Ecology
Chapter 53: Community Ecology
Chapter 54: Ecosystems
Chapter 55: Conservation Biology and Restoration Ecology
2. Complete worksheet Packet #1 and Worksheet packet #2. These should be answered on your own
paper/graph paper. Your answers to these two assignments will be collected on the first day of
class. This work will be worth points on the Ecology Unit Test. It will be necessary for you to do
accurate, detailed, AP quality work.
3. Finally, we are asking that you to become familiar with 3 out of 12 of the AP Labs for the course.
To do this you will have to visit the website call “LabBench”:
You will be reading and becoming familiar with the following Labs:
Lab 10: Circulatory and Physiology
Lab 11: Animal Behavior
Lab 12: Dissolved Oxygen
For each of the above labs; Read and Take notes on the main ideas within each section:
Introduction, Key Concepts, Design of Experiment (Materials, procedure, independent and
dependent variable/s, etc.) and Analysis of Results.
Take the Quiz at the end of each lab. You can print this out or you can just record the answers on
your paper. Then check your answers and put a fraction showing the total # you got correct over
the # attempted. The will also be collected along with Worksheet Packet #1 and Worksheet Packet
#2.
