In 2013, the value (in current US$) of exports of "copper" (SITC group 682) decreased by 4.6 percent (compared to 10.4 percent average growth rate
from 2009-2013) to reach 131.1 bln US$ (see table 2), while imports decreased by 3.1 percent to reach 131.7 bln US$ (see table 3). Exports of this
commodity accounted for 5.8 percent of world exports of SITC section 6, and 0.7 percent of total world merchandise exports (see table 1). Chile,
Germany and Japan were the top exporters in 2013 (see table 2). They accounted for 17.5, 8.0 and 5.7 percent of world exports, respectively. China,
USA and Germany were the top destinations, with respectively 26.6, 7.2 and 6.9 percent of world imports (see table 3).
The top 15 countries/areas accounted for 69.3 and 74.4 percent of total world exports and imports, respectively (see tables 2 and 3). In 2013, Chile
was the country/area with the highest value of net exports (+22.8 bln US$), followed by Zambia (+6.8 bln US$). By MDG regions (see graph 2), the
largest surpluses in this product group were recorded by Latin America and the Caribbean (+21.9 bln US$), Sub-Saharan Africa (+8.9 bln US$) and
Commonwealth of Independent States (+8.4 bln US$). The largest trade deficits were recorded by Eastern Asia (-30.2 bln US$), Western Asia (-8.8
bln US$) and South-eastern Asia (-4.5 bln US$).
