Fast Track Student of the Month: Andrew Yamasaki
Interviewers: Karen Li and Ria Qi
When did you know that
you wanted to become an
EE?
I wanted to become an EE
because I liked building
computers, did alright at
math and physics in high
school, and some members
of my family are EEs too.
Birthplace: Bay
Area, Northern
California
Schooling:
Homestead High
School
Interests outside of
school:
Paintballing,
building computers
and eating Korean
BBQ
Who has influenced you the most in your choice of your
academic field?
Choosing my major was mainly influenced by me; I had
plenty of leeway from my parents and I value making my
own decision
Why did you choose UCLA’s EE
Program?
I chose UCLA EE program because
it was the strongest one, but my
heart was torn between the
beaches of UCSD and UCD
because I spent a summer at
COSMOS summer camp at the
latter.
What are you interested in as
a career?
I want to start my own
electronics company, and
bring sustainable energy and
developmental projects to
people around the world. I like
hardware so I want to make
some big innovations in the
field. Most of all I want to have
my name remembered for
contributing something
different.
How has it been being on a big
campus so far?
UCLA is a lot more compact than
UCD, walking to in from classes vs
.bikes keeps me in shape but the
hill walk would have been easier if
we had a better bike
infrastructure program IMO. Good
people, good food, it is a good life.
