The pigments are grouped into colour shades with all the different solutions
provided for a specific colour space including organic and inorganic pigments and
preparations. The general suitability of use in application is indicated for each
product. DCC® strongly suggests testing a sample in your specific resin
and manufacturing system to determine your specific suitability.
Some of the data contained in this product selection guide may differ slightly
from that on the Technical Data Sheets (TDS) as the respective product TDS
is updated immediately following any changes to the data such as updated
weatherfastness. The respective product TDS should be used to obtain the
most current and detailed data available for a specific product. The data
presented in this brochure is intended to make it easier to select suitable pigments
or preparations for their intended use.

The information in this handout is based on extensive testing and application experience and is believed
to be a reliable indication of the results that may be expected. However, the data does not constitute a
specification for the products, and is offered only as a guide to performance without guarantee or
warranty of any kind. Because of the difficulties of modern colour reproduction, the shades may vary
slightly from the final colour application. Since many variables have a strong influence on pigment
performance, the users are encouraged to test each product in their own laboratory prior to use. 02/15

Properties
Refer to your DCC® representative for additional
information on selecting DCC® pigments for use
in Plastics, Coatings and Inks.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
SPECIFIC GRAVITY
The Specific Gravity is determined using
DCC® 3101B.
OIL ABSORPTION
The Oil Absorption is determined using the
Fasig Method from the Gardner Catalogue
(1946), p. 291.
HEAT STABILITY
Heat stability was determined by injection
molding in accordance with DCC® 4215.
The results show the highest temperature
at which the colour difference versus a
standard is no greater than ΔE* 3.0 for
assessing colour change.
Note: The heat stability of Diarylide pigments is
recorded as 200°C in HDPE due to the potential
for these pigments to thermally decompose at
temperatures greater than 200°C. Users are
advised to follow the recommendations of ETAD
information No. 2 “Thermal Decomposition of
Diarylide Pigments” – September 1990.
PIGMENT ILLUSTRATIONS
All organic pigment shades shown here are
based on a full shade concentration of 0.5%
pigment in LDPE (the exception is PB.60,
which is evaluated at 0.2% pigmentation)
using DCC® 4229. Inorganic pigment shades
are based on a full shade concentration of
1.0% pigment in LDPE. In white reductions
the illustrations are based on the respective
pigment concentration to achieve 1:10 tint
reduction for both Organic & Inorganic
pigments.
Polymer suitability with respect to fields of
application are shown in the table, opposite
each pigment in the product selection guide.
Suitable applications covered include
Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS),
Polyester (e.g. PET), Polyethylene (LLDPE,
LDPE, HDPE), Polycarbonate, Polystyrene,
Nylon, Polypropylene, Polyvinylchloride
(Rigid & Flexible). Please note that the
indicated suitabilities are only a general
guide and the recommendations are
indicated as follow;
= Frequently Used
= Limited Use
= Not Normally Used
PERFORMANCE PROPERTIES
WARP RESISTANCE
The impact of a specific pigment to generate
warpage was determined through
comparison of coloured (0.1% pigmentation)
and uncoloured injection-molded HDPE test
plaques in accordance with DCC® 4235.
The rating system is tabulated below;

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE
ACID AND ALKALI RESISTANCE - Determined
by exposing the dry pigment powder (at a
ratio of 1:10) to a 2% Hydrochloric Acid and a
2% Sodium Hydroxide solution for 30 minutes
at room temperature. The exposed sample is
filtered, dried, printed and then compared
against the control. The degree of colour
change is expressed as a range from
Excellent (E) with no colour change to Very
Good (VG) to Good (G) to Fair (F) to Poor (P)
indicating severe colour change.
SOLVENT RESISTANCE
Determined by exposing the dry pigment
powder (at a ratio of 1:50) to various solvents
for 30 minutes at room temperature.
The exposed pigment is filtered and then
compared against standard solutions.
The degree of bleed is expressed as a range
from Excellent (E), no bleed, through to
Poor (P), indicating severe bleed.
WEATHERFASTNESS
Assessments are based on extensive testing
of the pigment in various resin systems,
by Xenon Arc Weather-O-meter or Florida
exposure. The degree of colour change is
assessed according to the 1-5 Grey Scale
where 1 indicates severe change and
5 represents no change (ISO R105 A02)
for both masstone and 1:10 tint.

Properties
Refer to your DCC® representative for additional
information on selecting DCC® pigments for use
in Plastics, Coatings and Inks.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
SPECIFIC GRAVITY
The Specific Gravity is determined using
DCC® 3101B.
OIL ABSORPTION
The Oil Absorption is determined using the
Fasig Method from the Gardner Catalogue
(1946), p. 291.
HEAT STABILITY
Heat stability was determined by injection
molding in accordance with DCC® 4215.
The results show the highest temperature
at which the colour difference versus a
standard is no greater than ΔE* 3.0 for
assessing colour change.
Note: The heat stability of Diarylide pigments is
recorded as 200°C in HDPE due to the potential
for these pigments to thermally decompose at
temperatures greater than 200°C. Users are
advised to follow the recommendations of ETAD
information No. 2 “Thermal Decomposition of
Diarylide Pigments” – September 1990.
PIGMENT ILLUSTRATIONS
All organic pigment shades shown here are
based on a full shade concentration of 0.5%
pigment in LDPE (the exception is PB.60,
which is evaluated at 0.2% pigmentation)
using DCC® 4229. Inorganic pigment shades
are based on a full shade concentration of
1.0% pigment in LDPE. In white reductions
the illustrations are based on the respective
pigment concentration to achieve 1:10 tint
reduction for both Organic & Inorganic
pigments.
Polymer suitability with respect to fields of
application are shown in the table, opposite
each pigment in the product selection guide.
Suitable applications covered include
Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS),
Polyester (e.g. PET), Polyethylene (LLDPE,
LDPE, HDPE), Polycarbonate, Polystyrene,
Nylon, Polypropylene, Polyvinylchloride
(Rigid & Flexible). Please note that the
indicated suitabilities are only a general
guide and the recommendations are
indicated as follow;
= Frequently Used
= Limited Use
= Not Normally Used
PERFORMANCE PROPERTIES
WARP RESISTANCE
The impact of a specific pigment to generate
warpage was determined through
comparison of coloured (0.1% pigmentation)
and uncoloured injection-molded HDPE test
plaques in accordance with DCC® 4235.
The rating system is tabulated below;

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE
ACID AND ALKALI RESISTANCE - Determined
by exposing the dry pigment powder (at a
ratio of 1:10) to a 2% Hydrochloric Acid and a
2% Sodium Hydroxide solution for 30 minutes
at room temperature. The exposed sample is
filtered, dried, printed and then compared
against the control. The degree of colour
change is expressed as a range from
Excellent (E) with no colour change to Very
Good (VG) to Good (G) to Fair (F) to Poor (P)
indicating severe colour change.
SOLVENT RESISTANCE
Determined by exposing the dry pigment
powder (at a ratio of 1:50) to various solvents
for 30 minutes at room temperature.
The exposed pigment is filtered and then
compared against standard solutions.
The degree of bleed is expressed as a range
from Excellent (E), no bleed, through to
Poor (P), indicating severe bleed.
WEATHERFASTNESS
Assessments are based on extensive testing
of the pigment in various resin systems,
by Xenon Arc Weather-O-meter or Florida
exposure. The degree of colour change is
assessed according to the 1-5 Grey Scale
where 1 indicates severe change and
5 represents no change (ISO R105 A02)
for both masstone and 1:10 tint.
