Interview Techniques

PREPARING FOR THE INTERVIEW






Most important is to start today. Read widely. All types of
literature available in the form of books & on the internet.
Keep yourself informed about the events happening around the
world & the changes taking place in all walks of life
especially in your field of study. Regular general reading
will enable you to answer basic general knowledge questions.
Remember
that
general
knowledge
cannot
be
developed
overnight; it is developed over a period of years.
Obtain
details
and
background
information
about
the
institute concerned. Find out everything you can, about its
method of selection, about the kind of questions asked, the
campus, the activities, placement records value system, the
mission and the like.
Visit the place where the interview will be held. This will
help you get a feel of the place, check the transport
arrangements. It helps to be sure how to reach the place by
your selected mode of transport in time for the interview.
Study and memorise the requirements of the position.
Put yourself in the interviewer’s place. Think his thoughts.
What will he want to know? How will he extract this
information from you? What should you seek to communicate
even if not asked?
Identify, write and memorise your strengths and weaknesses.
Be positive. Put down your qualifications on paper. Start
with: Why am I the right student for this institute?
ON THE BIG DAY.





Be presentable. Take care while selecting the clothes you
plan to wear. It is advisable to be neatly and formally
dressed. Ensure that your clothes are neatly ironed and worn
impeccably. Do not wear a sharp perfume that may overwhelm
the panel. Always go for a mild and sophisticated fragrance.
Get to bed early the night before the interview and get a
good night’s sleep.
Eat a good meal before setting out for the interview. Get
ready well in advance.
Spend a few moments glancing through your resume and
revising answers to basic questions that may be put to you.
Be alert and keep your head over your shoulders. Remember
that you can never be totally prepared for an interview.
There will always be questions that you have not anticipated
or thought of before. Answer them as best as possible.
