Would you like to instill important values in your players such as: giving back to the community as
well as increasing their knowledge about Staying Well, Getting Well, Finding Cures and Fighting
Back against Cancer? Coaches vs. Cancer is a national program led by our country’s coaches in
the most important game of all…..beating Cancer.
The following ideas can be utilized at a cheer or dance team event to raise funds for the American
Cancer Society and to spread our important, lifesaving mission!
Raising Money
-
Do a rapid donation collection in the stands of a sporting event during a timeout or
halftime
Sell event T-shirts (themes: cheer for a cure, tumbling for a cure)
Do a mini-clinic prior to or following a sporting event for local kids for a donation
Organize a fundraising invitational or tournament with multiple cheer teams
Utilize our website (coaches.acsevents.org/newyork) and fundraise online
Secure local sponsorships
Recruit a local restaurant or a concessions stand to donate food and drinks for the night
Host a cheer showcase for the community
Incorporating the Mission and Cancer Awareness
-
Wear colored wristbands, shoelaces, hair bows, etc.
Sell pin-up cards in honor or memory of those affected by cancer and display in stands
Print off game day brochures (available on the website) and pass out at event
Use mission points (available on the website) in school assemblies, timeouts, pre-game
announcements, etc.
Spread the Word
-
Use our customizable flyer - put up in your school and email to friends and family
Encourage area youth teams and cheer academies to attend the game
Advertise the event on your school website, e-Newsletter, and social media channels
Get Your Whole School Involved
-
Have a spare change contest between classrooms/grade levels
Sell pin-up cards in your school prior to the event and/or at the game and create a Wall of
Hope
Have a coach or teacher issue a fundraising challenge – hit a specific level and they’ll get
pied in the face, shave their heads, etc.
