This course will help you understand how to run a prep school from a business and financial perspective. Heads are
required to work with Bursars closely, and to understand the business and financial aspects of school management despite,
often, a lack of experience and training in this area. IAPS Heads, new Governors and members of SMT will find the course
helpful in understanding the financial drivers in successful schools.
Audience: Governors, Heads and Senior Management
Objectives: To help Members of SMT and Governors understand their role in the financial management of the schools; to
gain knowledge and confidence in reading and understanding financial reports, identifying the key financial measures and
what to do if they are wrong, to develop the skills and knowledge to assist a strong relationship with the bursar.

Angus Cater
Angus was educated at Sherborne School. He obtained his Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance from
the ACCA and his MA in Strategic Financial Management from Kingston University Business School. He has
had a varied business career of which the last twenty two years has been spent as Managing Director then
Chairman of SFS Group, an insurance broker specialising in independent schools. He trains Heads and Deputy
Heads in matters financial, and Senior Management Teams in Crisis Management. He has been a Governor of
one maintained and two independent schools and manages one charitable trust and is Treasurer of another.
His book ‘Finance for Heads and Governors’ is due to be published in September 2016

From the North:
M6/M42/M40 or M5/M42/M40 or M1/A42/M42/M40
Exit M40 at Junction 15. Take the 2nd exit off the roundabout signposted A429
to Warwick Town Centre. The hotel is situated immediately on the left-hand

M1 (northbound)
Leave M1 at Junction 17 and follow the M45/A45 to the Coventry Ring Road. At
Bagington roundabout, take the 2nd exit signposted A45/Birmingham. After 1
mile, turn left onto the A46 towards Warwick. Continue along the A46 following
signs all the way to the M40 (NOT Warwick Town Centre). At the M40
roundabout, take the 1st exit, now signposted A429 Warwick Town Centre. The
hotel is situated immediately on the left-hand side. (Note: there is no exit at
Junction 17 of the M1 southbound).
Parking
There are 250 parking spaces available. Parking costs £3 per night for hotel guests
and conference delegates.
