We will be identifying subjects and predicates within a simple sentence. Writing Focus: Opinion In writing we will begin learning about how to write an opinion piece. Quizzes and Tests Tuesday: Social Studies Test – Map Skills SLO Testing Your student will take their Math and Reading SLO Pretest Tuesday, August 18th and Wednesday, August 19th. These tests are just a baseline for your student’s teacher. The test will ask information that has not been taught. Please remind you student of this as we will here at school as well. We encourage a good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast each morning. Thank you for your support in the classroom. Springfield Elementary is participating in the Harvey’s Supermarket Educational Rewards Program. If you have a Harvey’s Rewards Card, please make sure that it is connected to our school. Social Studies Unit 1: Numbers and Operations in Base-Ten This week we will be working on answering the following essential questions: Students will be tested on Map Skills Tues. 8/18 How are digits in a number related? What can we learn about the value of a number by examining its digits? This week in math we will continue covering Unit 1: Numbers and Operations in Base-Ten. Please remember to review homework and practice math facts nightly with your child. We are already practicing for the 1st Math Challenge. The 1st Math Challenge will cover 90 multiplication facts. They must get 81 correct in 4 minutes. We will be starting with the zeroes, ones, twos, and fives (all facts that can be solved by skip counting) Important Dates Sept. 7th – Labor Day-No School Sept. 8th – Progress Reports Sept. 28th – PTO (4th & 5th grades performing) This week in social studies students will continue learning about map skills.
