PURPOSE BULLET BACKGROUND PAPER ON CAP CADET CYBER BADGE NHQ Cadet Cyber Programs (NCCyP) is recommending the establishment a formal recognition program for cadets that participate in cyber-­‐security training and competition. The program outlined in this paper will refer to the “Cadet Cyber Programs Badge” and will address: cadet program development, formal education and training, practical application, and leadership. NHQ Cadet Cyber Programs (NCCyP) recommends that the cyber recognition program foster the “complete cadet” instead of fulfilling requirements –
To progress through the cadet cyber program, the cadet must progress through the cadet program –
Cadets must fulfill educational requirements –
Cadets must participate in national level activities –
Cadets must apply skills (i.e. cyber defense competitions) DISCUSSION -­‐
Cadets interested in the Cyber Program Badge will be enrolled in the Cyber Defense Training Academy (CDTA). -­‐

Technician level: –
Cadet must have completed their Wright Brothers Achievement –
Cadet must complete online training and score an 80 or above on the assessment test — Online curriculum to be developed by CDTA. –
Cadet must be a registered and active participant in a cyber defense competition (e.g. CyberPatriot, other NHQ approved Cyber Defense Competition). -­‐
Senior level: –
Cadet must have completed their Mitchell Achievement –
Cadet must attend the Cyberspace Familiarization Course –
Cadet must be a registered, active participant, and serve as team captain, or play a significant leadership or teaching role in a cyber defense competition team (e.g. CyberPatriot, other NHQ approved Cyber Defense Competition) -­‐
Master level: –
Cadet must have completed their Earhart Achievement –
Cadet must attend the Cyberspace Advanced Course –
Cadet must serve as a high-­‐school level cyber defense competition mentor (not active competitor) –
Cadet must have two semesters of formal education to include: — High-­‐school level computer science course -­‐ CAP-­‐NHQ will need to develop the Cadet Cyber Badge. Samples are below. SUMMARY The goal of the Cadet Cyber Programs Badge is to foster the “whole cadet” concept through cyber programs participation. Similar to the senior member specialty track, cadets will have to complete cadet program achievements, educational requirements, and practical applications to reach their desired level in the cyber program.
