State Championships in girls cross country, boys tennis, girls soccer, and baseball were the highlights of the school-year athletic campaign, but overall program consistency was the key. Receiving 100 points for a state championship, and 90 points for runner up, Lovett finished the year with 1,252 points. In the overall standings, Lovett finished 30 points ahead of second-place, Wesleyan. The Lions finished third in the boys standings and second in the girls standings, the only school to finish in the top three for both genders. Melissa Wilhelm Announced as Assistant Athletic Director Lovett Director of Athletics, Steve Franks, has announced the hiring of Melissa Wilhelm as the Lions’ new Assistant Athletic Director. Wilhelm comes to The Riverbank from Georgia Tech, where she has served as Academic Coordinator for the football program the past five years. Prior to her most recent experience at Georgia Tech, Wilhelm taught Language Arts and served as the varsity girls soccer coach at SLAM Miami Charter School. She also served in roles within the Georgia Tech and University of Miami’s academic support departments. Previous coaching experience includes one season as the girls varsity soccer coach at Miami Palmetto High School. Wilhelm played college soccer at Tulane University and then transferred to Florida State University, where she was a member of FSU’s soccer team, which played in the 2006 NCAA College Cup semifinals, losing, 2-0, to Notre Dame. While in Tallahassee, she completed a B.A. in English, graduating Magna Cum Laude, as well as finishing with a Master of Science in Sport Management. She was a Golden Torch honoree as the student-athlete holding the highest GPA on an FSU athletic team, an ACC Academic Honor Roll selection, and was on either the President’s or Dean’s List throughout her careers at both Tulane and FSU. Wilhelm looks forward to her new challenge with the Lions saying, “I am thrilled to join the Lovett community as Assistant Athletic Director. I moved to Atlanta five years ago and I quickly learned how special Lovett is. To be a part of a school with such rich academic and athletic traditions is extremely exciting for me both personally and professionally, and I can’t wait to start!” Lauren Rausaw, Greer Pritchard, Piper Rackley, Grace AA Spring State Championships Raulet, Ivey Redding, Senaidra Reynolds, Stella Richman, Baseball Seth Rogers, Alden Shiverick, Taylor Schonberg, Evans Lovett’s varsity baseball team defeated the Wesleyan Wolves in the third game of the AA State Championship series Schneider, Anna Schwazkopf, Caroline Stevens, Henry on Monday, May 23.
