If not specifically stated in the assessment information, a plural statement in any
assessment criterion means a minimum of two.
Assessor Requirements:
There is no information regarding specific assessor requirements for this unit. Centres
should select assessors who are trained in assessment, and who have subject specific
competence to assess at this level.
Guidance on assessment: Assessors should choose assessment methods that are suitable for
individual learners and that ensure all the assessment criteria are fully met. Assessors should

Assessment Method Suggestions:
• Photographs showing the learner’s two musical instruments at various
stages of construction. These should be annotated by learner and/or
assessor to describe what is shown.
• Digital video recording of learner as construction of the two musical
instruments takes place.
1.2 Use two made instruments to create musical sound
1.3 Use two made instruments to accompany live and/or pre-recorded music
3.2 Follow basic rhythm using an instrument.
Assessment Method Suggestions:
• Digital video recording of learner as the two made musical instruments are
used to create sound to accompany live and/or pre-recorded music and
follow a basic rhythm. The learner’s participation must be clearly evident in
order for IQA/IV of the video recording to take place.
• Digital audio recording of learner as the two made musical instruments are
used to create sound to accompany live and/or pre-recorded music and
follow a basic rhythm. The learner’s participation must be clearly evident in
order for IQA/IV of the audio recording to take place.
• Assessor observation may be used but, due to the nature of this unit, other
methods of assessment are likely to be preferable. If observation is used as
an assessment method the Assessor must describe in detail how the learner
has met the criteria. The learner’s individual participation must be clearly
