BISHOP’S UNIVERSITY / Winter 2015 FIS 271, Sculpture II Mona Godbout This course follows up on the technical and theoretical notions introduced in Sculpture 1. From 2D to 3D : In this course, the students will convert a drawing into sculpture. Starting with a drawing (or image), they will make the necessary formal adaptations to produce a low relief and two sculptures in the round. It needs to be specified that the idea of drawing (or image) is here meant to be very inclusive. A drawing can therefore be understood as a concept or a plan, a theme or a triggering element. Low relief Selection of a theme and presentation of an initial drawing (or image) with sculptural potential to be used as a starting point for the design of a low relief composition. The relief will be modeled on a slab of clay from which a plaster mold will be made. The final piece will be casted in Tuf Stone Sculpture in the round modeled in clay The evolving image (or theme) will then be adapted to create a sculpture in the round in which all view points have to be considered. The sculpture will be modeled in clay and molded in plaster (waste-molding process). The final piece will be casted in Tuf Stone. Sculpture in the round directly modeled in plaster Working on the same theme, the students will creatively adapt it to a more direct mode of constructing a sculpture in the round in plaster (no molding involved). Various materials and found objects can also be incorporated in the work. This piece will be built on an armature, which implies to have a preconcieved idea of the work to be done. Evaluation : 75% for 3 projects at 25% 25% for overall participation, critical outlook and working methods Mona Godbout [email protected]
