City of Boonville—Article 1
Section 8.3 The City Council mandates training of personnel at temporary and permanent food establishments as follows:
A. Basic Food Handler Training—No temporary or permanent food establishment shall
remain open for business unless fifty percent
(50%) of all food establishment personal on
duty at any time possess a Basic Food Handler Card. If the 50% trained food handler
level is not attained due to employee turnover since the last offered training session,
then training will be scheduled and a trained
supervisory food handler will be responsible
for on-site train and compliance issues until
training can occur. To obtain such a card,
the food establishment personnel must have
attended a Basic Food Handler Safety
Course (typically a two hour program) provided by the CCPHC or an equivalent training
course approved by the CCPHC and provide
evidence of satisfactory completion prior to
the issuance of the card. The Basic Food
Handler Safety Card
shall be renewed every
three (3) years.
B. Supervisory Food Handler Training—No
person shall manage a food establishment
unless such person possesses a Supervisory
Food Handler Card. To obtain such a card,
the person shall have attended a Supervisory
Food Handler Safety Course offered or approved by the CCPHC and provide evidence of
successful completion prior to the issuance of
the card. In the case of newly opened food
establishments operation may continue until
the first date available for such food service
training. The Supervisory Food Handler Safety
Card shall be renewed every three (3) years.
C. Fundraising Events, Festivals and other
Community Events—The training requirement will become effective on January 1,
2012 (January 1, 2013 outside of the City
of Boonville) for organizations preparing or
selling food for fundraising, festivals or
other community events. This will allow the
calendar year of 2011 (2012 for outside of
the City of Boonville) to conduct outreach
to these groups. Notification and education of the training requirement and schedule of training sessions will be disseminated by CCPHC and the City. The CCPHC
develops a calendar for training on a yearly
basis and publishes in hard copy and on
their website at
www.coopercountypublichealth.com
D. Food handlers at the fundraising
events, festivals and other community
events are all encouraged to sign up for a
training class, however, only one(1) food
handler or person in charge of and working
the event is mandated to attend. In addition, if a food handler has received comparable training from another health department, reciprocity for the training will be
recognized and credited.
