Virginia was the first governed place in the southern colonies. Also James oglethorpe ruled georgia for 20 years. Just before the American Revolutionary War, there were three proprietary colonies: Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania Culture/Society the people who lived in the southern colonies were mostly agricultural,and consisted of wealthy plantation owners,and small farmers. They weren’t dominated by a specific religion which gave way to religious freedom for Baptists, Anglicans and others.
