This set of Place Value Task Cards contains 24 different word problems for
students to practice the following Common Core standards:
•  5.NBT.A.1 - Recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times
as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place
to its left.
•  5.NBT.A.2 - Explain patterns in the number of zeros of the product when multiplying a
number by powers of 10, and explain patterns in the placement of the decimal point
when a decimal is multiplied or divided by a power of 10.
Setup:
1.  Print the task cards double-sided. The cards will look best in color, but will also print fine in
grayscale.
2.  Cut out the task cards along the dotted guidelines on each page.
3.  If you can, laminate the cards so that you can use them over and over again.
4.  Store the cards in a plastic baggie, or hole punch them and put them on a metal ring.
5.  Print out a student answer sheet for each student to write their answers on. Note that you
may want students to show their work on a separate sheet of paper.
6.  Print out (and laminate if possible) the answer key so that students can check their own
work.
Use:
These task cards can be used in a variety of ways. Use in small groups or in centers. Use these
cards to play whole class or team games. Use in whatever ways will be helpful for your
students… the possibilities are endless!
