The DONATION BOX is by the DOORS near the DISTRICT OFFICE The Barneveld Baseball team is doing an OLD SHOE RECYCLING drive AGAIN. We are looking for shoes from people, which are no longer fitting or needed. The shoes we are collecting will be going to other areas and/or countries which are in need of footwear. Check your closets and ask your neighbors and relatives if they have any old shoes they would like to get rid of. We accept pairs of women’s, men’s, and children’s shoes, which may include athletic sneakers, cleats, flats, high heels, dress shoes, work boots, dress boots, and fashion or casual sneakers. Forensics Students Dear Parents All students in Wisconsin will be taking the Badger Exam 3-8: A Wisconsin Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment in grades 3-8 between March 30 and May 22. This new assessment will be used to gauge how well students are mastering the Wisconsin College and Career Ready Standards in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. Your child’s achievement will be compared to other students in the state and other states who use similar assessments. Parents will be able to use the test results for more insight into how well your child is doing on a broad measure of achievement. Teachers and students will use the results to target instruction to individual student needs. Administrators will use it to guide curriculum and professional development. DOES NOT INCLUDE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING: ski boots, roller skates, roller blades, CROCS, broken, wet, muddy or ruined footwear, single shoes, FLIP FLOPS, or slippers. The Shoe Recycling Drive will continue ALL SCHOOL YEAR because of the large amount I have received. Thanks, Coach Schmitz This is an online test that includes a portion with multiple choice and short answer questions on the computer, a classroom activity, followed by a performance task to be completed on the computer also. The test is not timed; students can take as much time as necessary to do their personal best. Barneveld School District will block off times for students to take the test in the computer labs as suggested by Wisconsin Department of Instruction (WI DPI). If a student needs more time to finish the test, we will be happy to accommodate their needs and allow them to continue or come back another time to finish the test. The estimated time for the ELA portion is 1 ½ hours. The estimated combined times for all three portions of the mathematics test is 3 to 3 ½ hours. These will be staggered over a two week period; they will not be administered all on the same day. Please see the schedule below for the days your child will be testing. In preparation for The Badger Exam, teachers have shared with student’s tutorials to learn about the tools available to them online during the test. They have or will have had a chance to take a practice test online to see how to navigate through the questions, experience, and practice using the online tools available to them. Students will have become familiar with the types of questions that will be presented and responses they will be asked to give. They will have experienced an in class activity to prepare them for their performance task, and then have gone back to the computer lab to take the practice performance task. These practice tests are available for them to take online at home on the Barneveld School District Website at http://www.barneveld.k12.wi.us/ under the student tab or at https://login4.cloud1. tds.airast.org/student/V98/Pages/LoginShell.aspx?c=SBAC_PT. We ask for your help to make this experience as stress free and positive as possible for your child. We ask that you make sure: • Children are in bed and have a good night’s sleep before their test days. • Have a good breakfast and lunch the day of test. • Children are present for their test days; please try to schedule appointments on days they will not be testing. • Your child knows we all support them, know they will try their best, and that this is just one test only, it will not define them or indicate their value. It is to gauge what they know and what we need to still work on. If you have any questions or concerns regarding The Badger Exam Test, feel free to contact us at bjones@ barneveld.k12.wi.us or [email protected] (best option) or 924-4711. Tue. Thank you, Ben Jones, Principal Phyllis Marx, Assessment Coordinator On Tuesday, March 17th four 4th graders, and four 5th graders traveled to South West Tech to compete in “Lit Wars”, a reading competition. Before traveling, each of the students had to read 8 preassigned novels and become a “master” on one of the novels. They competed against students from 19 schools in southwestern Wisconsin. Of the eight students, 6 placed either 2nd or 3rd in their individual novel competition. The students then, participated in a grade level competition. The 5th graders placed 3rd. Congratulations to all participants on their hard work.
