PoE GUIDE What Does PoE Mean? PoE stands for Power over Ethernet, meaning you can supply both power and video to your camera with just one cat5 cable. This allows for a more convenient installation as you only have to wire one cable to your camera. You can get PoE through a separate power supply, or depending on the NVR you can get PoE built into the NVR itself. Connecting Your PoE Injector 1. Connect the included 12v power supply to the PoE 2. Connect your cat5 cable to the network port on your camera’s pigtail 3. Connect the cable coming from the camera to one of the lan ports on the back of the PoE 4. Connect a cat5 network cable to the uplink port on the PoE 5. Connect the cat5 cable coming from the uplink port to your router or modem 6. On the front of the PoE injector, there are 4 toggle switches that control which ports get power. Make sure whatever port you’ve plugged your cameras into, the corresponding toggle switch is in the ON position. Connecting Multiple PoE Injectors Some large systems may require multiple PoE injectors to connect all their cameras. If this is the case you will simply run your cat5 network cable from the uplink port on one Injector to a lan port on the second PoE injector. Connecting to an NVR with built in PoE Some Network Video Recorders have built in PoE. If this is the case you will simply run a cat5 network cable from the camera directly into the PoE port on the back of the NVR. Maximum Wiring Distance The Maximum distance that you will be able to wire a PoE to your camera will be 200 ft. If you need to run your cables any further, we recommend connecting another PoE at the end of the cable run to boost the power output. Pan-Tilt-Zoom Cameras If you are using a PTZ camera you can still power that camera through the PoE injector, or the PoE ports on the NVR with just the one Cat5 network cable, since that cable will give you power , video, and control over the PTZ.
